haha hopefully not! and will do.

hey do you know how long the wl is? I really cant wait to get in…since they say they will start review the wl even before June.1st… I really really want to get in!
anyone got in but not going?? give ur spot to me!

Some schools use the W/L not only as a nice way of saying no, and not only as a repository of standbys, to be dipped into if too few accepted applicants decide to attend.

Rather, they use it as burden-shifting device. What I’ve heard is waitlist placement sometimes means that the school believes the student is qualified, and assumes that if the student also is motivated–is serious about attending if the chance is offered–that a call or a letter or some other action will be taken by that student to make their feelings clear.

So, if you’re a student who absolutely and sincerely would attend if only the school would say OK, call or write and say that to them in plain English. And tell them what you have to offer.

The last thing that should be done is simply make inquiry as to your status, or worse yet, just wait and hope they change their minds.

i was with a friend last night who is going to be a junior at bard and when i told him i had been waitlisted he said that bard loves waitlisting people. i didnt ask him to elaborate because i wasnt really in the mood to talk about it, but im going to assume he knows people who had been waitlisted before freshman year who got in. although for transfers it could be a totally different scene.

he didnt seem that surprised by my news though.

yeah…I was just wondering how bard loves waitlisting ppl. Do they have a long waitlist of people or they actually tends to take people off waitlist(I mean accept people on the wl.)
And yes, bard transfer application is quite competitive. Bard requires people got admitted should reply back in two weeks. Since it’s being almost 3 to 4 weeks after releasing the trasnfer decisions, I guess they prob have got the estimate of how many admitted people gonna attend for sure. Then they will start review us on the waitlist.

wut u mean he didnt seem surprised? like bard always waitlisting lots of people or something?

i mean, i guess. i will ask him tomorrow and if he gives any insight, ill let you know.

If you look on any thread on any college on this forum, you will see the phrase “_______ loves to waitlist people [insert any college name in the blank]”.

I got paranoid. It’s june 1st tomorrow. and they will start review the waitlist…

IN!!!
letter arrives today.

ugh. damn. now im nervous. congratulations though! i assume youre definately going?

Weeks ago heartbreak looked bad,
but thank god the waitlist wasn’t that ugly.

I heard on Wednesday! Accepted

@fromaradio,
Yes I’m definitely going! I’ve sent out tuition deposit already! Dont feel nervous! Have the confidence to get in! Bard is for you! I hope to see you in Bard this august!
@Atlases,
are you attending this fall for sure? u have facebook?

congrats to you too then, atlases! how do you know that the waitlist isnt that ugly?

elis.eliz: I have already double-checked and Bard received my deposit on Friday afternoon, so YES! I’m headed there come the fall. And of course I have facebook, haha.

fromaradio: The assumption as to whether or not the wait list is entirely ugly was based on my getting in, which, with my deposit in I still think is an extremely cruel joke. I must have emailed Greg close to every day since I confirmed my spot on the wait list - and while it seemed a bit much a times, I could see him sighing and a bit thankful that he’d never have to deal with me again in the post-acceptance communication. But really, from everything he said, the process takes absolutely forever, and it slowly goes down the line, because this is on a much smaller scale, and therefore a much more personal scale than general application. So, really, just be confident that you are going to get in! Hoping drives people insane, just know - and since it is the right place for you, I’ll see you come Fall!

haha that is HILARIOUS that you say that. literally every time i go to email greg, i can picture him sitting at his computer thinking, “yo, sara…chill.” i always expect to receive some exasperated reply because i know theyre super busy, but i just cant help it. seems like a good guy though.

@ fromaradio
Yeah Mr. Greg is pretty nice and helpful!!
but ur description is even much more funny! hahah ;)

i dont feel so hopeful anymore :-/
