Transfers: Writing Waivers

Transfer students,

Have you been notified of whether you were waived from taking Writing 100? I sent my portfolio off in early July, and I have not recieved word of my status. What about you?

I got mine in on July 28th and haven't heard back yet. I wrote the writing 1 coordinator an email and she said that they were a little behind because one of the readers had to have surgery. She said that they hoped to have notifications out before move in, or at the latest by the time classes start.

Did any transfers get Writing 100 waived? It's on webstac.

I got mine waived (got an email). How about you?

I did not get mine waived, which is really depressing especially since I'm an English major. What school are you coming from? I think I met you today.

I'm from Western Illinois University. How about you?

oh, I don't know you then. I'm from Emory. What made you transfer, and why Washu of all places?

I was really bored at my other school. I wanted more of a challenge, so I made a list of schools that were described as being "most competitive" in a book that I have. I only included ones that were in the midwest (didn't want to go too far from home). I visited them, and decided I liked WashU the best. How about you?

I'm from St. Louis, and I didn't like being that far away. Also, my old school was way too constricting with the curriculum--there was little academic freedom there, and I didn't have many options as to what I could study.

Where are you living at this year vtoodler?

at home. I would get an apartment, but I'm too poor.

I wish I could live at home. I hate this apartment :(

why do you hate it?

I have a long list of things that don't work or are burned out, mostly in the kitchen. There are also my very rude upstairs neighbors who blare music at night. I'm not sure if I'm just homesick right now and that's why everything seems to be horrible, or if it really is that horrible.

I think that things are just horrible, and that you aren't blowing things out of proportion. I would talk to your neighbors about that issue.

I've talked to them twice about it already and one of the guys has been a jerk about it. So I talked to the RA assigned to my building last night, she said that once we have our building meeting to discuss noise hours that she thinks it will be better, but if it doesn't get better, I'm supposed to come talk to her again. By the way, do you have AIM? I'd love to talk to you on there some time.

oh, that totally sucks. I don't know what makes people think that they can be inconsiderate. I don't have aim, but I can give you my email.

That'd be great, if you'd like you can PM me with your email.

What does PM stand for? You know, you transfer students are extremely nice. This past week, I've felt really welcomed by you guys. It's sad that I've never met you before. Have you been attending the events? They are very fun.

PM = private message I've been going to some of the events, I've met a lot of nice people too. Tomorrow I have the curriculum planner session with my peer advising group, I'm not sure what else I might go to. How about you?
