Hello, I am planning on transferring to Fordham next semester (spring 2015). I know it is hard to find housing as a transfer, so I will be commuting. I was just wondering if Fordham is accepting of transfers? I am coming in as a second semester sophomore, and I want to make friends and have a good time, but I am afraid I am coming in pretty late and that people will already have established groups.

I do hope to find housing for Fall 2015 however!

That will be an issue wherever you transfer. You need to really make an effort to get involved in campus life and meet people. IMO there are two types of commuting students – some are very involved and active on campus and others just show up for class and leave right afterwards. Especially with being a transfer it would be important to get involved in on campus organizations and clubs and make a real effort to meet people. There are plenty of things to choose from so you should find some things to get involved with that interest you.

In terms of housing, you should put yourself on the housing wait list at ResLife. You also may find friends who want to move off campus (a number of people, certainly not everyone though, will move into off campus apartments for junior year because it is much cheaper and you don’t have to deal with ResLife restrictions) that you can live with.

As an aside, I’d also look carefully at Fordham’s core, take stock of what classes you need to fulfill both the core and your major to see where you will stand if you transfer here.

Spirit77 has a good point in checking to see how many and for what classes your credits will apply. The core must be done. That’s about all I can say on it. They really seem to not budge on that at all. AND they are very picky about WHICH classes are accepted as anything other than “electives.”
My DD (2018) came in with 23 credits, which helped get rid of her Liberal Arts electives for Gabelli. Yet her 8 credits from Harvard,(included in the 23), 4 having been taught by an Oscar winning professor, are not being accepted as “Fine Arts.” They were taken as regular old electives. leaving that lovely Core Fine Arts pending. She is waiting for all of the craziness to settle down and will revisit the issue. However, I am not getting a warm and fuzzy of this.
So, before you commit to anything, really check it out and get it in writing. Good luck.
