Transgender students at UNCW??

As you can probably assume from the title, I’m transgender. I’m also a current high school senior who’s a resident of NC and plans on majoring in marine biology, so people have suggested UNCW to me. I’ve checked the school’s website for their protocols involving transgender students (i.e. some schools offer gender neutral housing, some will include hormones in their healthcare, some include surgeries in their healthcare, etc.), but I couldn’t find much of anything. Does anyone happen to know where I can find this information? And would UNCW be a safe school for an openly transgender student?

UNCW is a safe school for anyone!

@LBad96 But what are their policies involving trans students? I can’t find them on their website which isn’t a good sign

There are no policies. Everyone is accepted for who they are

@LBad96 You’re really misunderstanding this. I mean that some schools have gender neutral housing, some include hormones for transitioning students in their student healthcare, some will cover part of transitional surgeries in their student healthcare, etc. Some don’t include gender identities in their anti-bullying policies. I need to know what UNCW has to offer me as a transgender student and it’s hard to tell due to an absence of information on their website and the lack of information about the school from the Campus Pride Index

If I were you, I would contact someone in the LGBTQIA center on campus. I haven’t personally had any expierence with any transgender students on campus so I’m unaware of the resources avaliable and dont want to give any false information. They would probably be the best way to find out information, or they could direct you on where to find them!
As for the student healthcare, I’m not sure if they would know the answers to that but it’s worth a shot. If they dont, I would call the student health center about, they could direct you to whoever runs student blue so you could find out more.

@SandyScrubs Thank you. I’m hoping someone will have some personal info maybe? I mean, emailing people who work there is helpful, but they can have good policies and still be an awful school to attend due to student attitudes and actions, and I’m still really unsure about that

No I understand completely! I just know that there aren’t a lot of people from UNCW who post here, and wanted to make sure you at least had some way to get information

@SandyScrubs I’ve noticed there’s not a whole lot of people posting here, especially compared to forums for other schools. Thank you for the pointer!
