Hello everybody !

I am an international student who intends to apply to some ivies and other top schools. As you may know there are numerous issues when it comes to translating the reports and everything, but here is my situation: I dowloaded the material that must be completed by teachers and counselor, translated it myself (none of my teachers knows english) and handed in for completion.

At this point an interesting situation arises: once I get the reports back, am I going to be allowed to translate some answers (for example short ones) and copy them on the report I am going to send to the universities? Or do I have to get an official translation of EVERY SINGLE word my teachers/counselor writes? You realize that a comprehensive translation (more than 10 pages) would cost me around 500 ($750) which is an impressive amount for me. Besides, I haven't translated the reports entirely (i.e. the part where I am required to fill in remains untranslated), so they are half in English, half in Italian.

An enormous thanks for your time and help !

I would suggest you to translate all your teachers’ evalations and make them sign, without letting words in your native language and without telling universities you translated them.

Thank you for your reply. Most probably, I will do as you said, translate them and don’t let univs. know that I did it. However, I’ll have my teachers have a look on the translation, perhaps with the the supervision of my ex-english teacher in case they want to have a confirmation that I didn’t cheat.

i totally agree. noone will ever know ^^ i do the same (only for one teacher rec tho, where my teacher feels uncomfortable writing in english)
many schools in europe have native speakers assisting english teachers in class (we had two), and if your school does, you should check back with him/her, maybe ask him/her to take a look at it, and tell you if anything is weird… because even though colleges in Us, especially ivies, are aware of the fact that english is not everyone´s first language, all translations should be clear and not to be misunderstood. so translate it, and ask your native speaker to look it through if there are any issues that are not completely clear
good luck ^^
