Can someone tell me just how easy (or hard) it is to get on/off campus? Really, I know that the weekends at Middlebury are fun and that I won't want to leave at all, but I still want to know the logistics of it. Is it that hard to get from Middlebury to Burlington? Is it easier to get someplace else that Amtrak/Greyhound/whatever come into? Is public transit as limited as it seems (see: http://www.actr-vt.org/index.php)? Do enough people use Middlebury Transit (see: Middlebury Vermont Transit and Vermont Chauffeured Transportation Services - use us for your taxi, bus, cab, shuttle, or limousine transportation) to and from campus that it's not going to cost about $90 every time I'd like to use it, taking cost-splitting into consideration? Would it be most prudent to simply bring a car? What about ZipCar?

Thanks for any responses!

Very sorry for the double post -- I thought the earlier one didn't go through. If a mod could delete one or the other, or tell me how to do so, that would be great.

You will make friends to help you with these logistics. If you have a car you will definitely make lots of friends. Middlebury has several Zip cars.

Hi Brittany! It is not hard at all to get from Midd to Burlington. The ACTR provides a shuttle that runs daily on a frequent schedule (EXCEPT for Sundays) for a small fee (about $3, although it changes). All you must do is research when the bus is coming, and you may head to the town center to board the bus.
I know several people who even split cabs with MiddTransit on the first day of school, without even knowing each other. If you simply post a request on a Facebook group and/or sent out an e-mail over the Midd server, it would be easy to split the cost of a taxi.
Parking is available for all Midd students, but they suggest you leave the car at home, probably to reduce the student carbon footprint. Enough students will already have cars, parking for Freshmen is inconveniently far. If you want to roadtrip or request a ride or a road trip, friends on campus who need a car to travel to and from school will probably be happy to accompany you.
I hope that helps!
