Trash me, I'm your competition! (in other words, chance me please)

I know this is horribly mundane of me, but if you want to you can and if not, ignore me! But I'd love to hear what you think.

Applied SCEA on or around October 20.

Stats:
SAT I Round One: 740 CR/640 M/740 W (1380/1600; 2120/2400)
SAT I Round Two: 800 CR/690 M/770 W (1490/1600; 2260/2400)
SAT II Literature: 730; SAT II U.S. History: 640 (blegh!)
GPA Unweighted: 93.00/100.00 (no weighting or class ranking available, although I'd place myself in the top 10%. Granted, that's out of 70ish, so take it with a grain of salt.)
Curriculum: all honors, taking AP Calc AB, which was the only AP course available to me.

ECs:

I've been elected class president for four years in a row, and have lead some pretty cool stuff: we took the first student-run class field trip in years, and have raised more money than the majority of the classes to come through my school. My principal personally wrote my guidance counselor recommendation.

I'm a classically trained pianist, have been for 15+ years, and I taught myself to play the guitar as well. I also play the saxophone and the flute, and I sing and write as well. I sent three musical pieces (one original song, one classical piece, and one jazz piece) with my application.

I've been a Girl Scout for as long as I can remember, and I have my Gold and Silver Awards. I also have integrated my music and community service to do things like perform at elderly homes, banquets, etc. My supplementary recommendation is from the CEO of my regional Girl Scout area.

As a member of SkillsUSA, I have earned two state medals (one silver, one bronze) and went on to win the bronze medal at the national skills leadership conference in 2009. I also have a silver medal from TSA state competition.

Above I only highlighted my most important ECs. There are others:
-writer/TV personality for school newspaper/media club
-Key Club member, 4 years
-Oops, totally forgot National Honor Society. General member, joined at the earliest time possible.
-Spanish Honor Society, earliest time possible, general member.
-I also have taught piano lessons from my home for about six years, totally forgot that one too! And I hold seasonal jobs in the summer.
-Academic team member, three years. General member.
-I'm also a c/Senior Chief Petty Officer as a Company Chief in my JROTC unit. As a member of the drill team freshman and sophomore year, my team won the Area Championship (last level before nationals).

Honest to goodness, I really don't mean to 'toot my own horn' when I say this, but I wrote really fantastic essays, and my teacher recommendations are pretty bangin'.

So what do you think? I know it's not perfect, but I'm really hoping that my 'real person' appeal will overcome the kids with 4.fivemillion GPAs, extensive ping-pong championship titles, and 2400 SATs. You tell me (if you made it this far, this is a fantastically long and self-absorbed post). I WILL chance you back!

you’ve been playing the piano for 15+ years…? aren’t 17 or 18 like most other applicants? that sounds pretty cool

Yup, I’m seventeen. I started playing when I was that little.

You have great chances! Just make sure you let Yale know who you really are–where your passions lie, and how you’ve capitalized on what you’ve been given to pursue said passions. Good luck!

Thanks! I did try very much to make clear that I’m more concerned with my interests and passions than with getting the grade or the score. I’m concerned about my second SAT I scores, though, as I took them in November and CollegeBoard.com still lists my order to send them to Yale as “pending.” On the admissions site it says November scores will get there fine for SCEA but I’m starting to freak out a little bit!
