Hopefully most of us have resumed our lives and COVID isn’t such a concern, so I figured I’d start a new travel thread. Anyone have fun plans for this summer, or beyond?
We are going to Seattle, Olympic National Park, and Whidbey Island with the kids and then the Oregon Coast without the kids. I’m very excited.
I’m going to Quebec City with my BFF in June. Then to Savannah, Georgia with my dad and sister in early July. I hate heat so I’m not thrilled about this destination.
My big trip is with DH the second half of July and early August. A resort in Spain on the Mediterranean for a week, five days in Normandy, and 3 days in Paris. This is the trip we had planned for 2020.
Just got back from five weeks in Japan and Singapore, so not looking to do any overseas flights for the rest of the year.
Was looking at shorter North American trips for this fall. Seems like airfares are way up over just a few months ago. Four or five months ago, round-trip airfares between San Francisco and Mexico City were under $300. Now they’re over $500. Car rental prices are way up from just a few months ago, too.
I was not well enough to go to Israel for Passover, but I changed my ticket to go for Sukkot. Leaving September 28, coming home 10 days later. Staying with my dear friends so no car rental, hotel, etc. expenses.
Planning to go to Baltimore in September for a meeting and then SF on the way home. Hope to see bil in SF and his kids. D may meet us in SF.
We did our 2 weeks in Japan in Mar/Apr. Ot was great but could have stayed longer.
YES - going to son’s wedding near Boston in June. He’s been engaged for 3.5 years (a few months before Coved hit)… so we are thrilled he and fiancee found a good plan. It will all be outside, so my 96 years old dad and his wife can join with minimal risk.
Then in late Sept we’ll head off to Europe with friends. Amsterdam for 2 days, then Viking river cruise. After that we’ll spend 5 nights in Florence, with some daytrips to Tuscany.
2 weeks in Europe at the end of June (doing a boat/bike trip in the Netherlands and going to Waterloo.
Late July we will go to Oregon for 2 weeks.
In December we are going a holiday river cruise.
Plans for 24 are underway
We are ditching too-cool and rainy June weather in the PNW and heading to visit our daughter in Spain for 2 weeks (Toledo, Seville, Cadiz, Malaga/Granada) and then just the two of us are headed to Portugal for 2 more weeks. We are pretty excited!
Going to Ireland for eight days, then DUB-FRA and a train to Baden-Baden to relax for several days. Will probably do a day trip to Colmar and Strasbourg while in B-B. Will then take an overnight train to Krakow, where we’ll meet up with S1, BIL and SIL and stay for a day (we’ve all been there before).
Will then take a train to the Ukrainian border, where we’ll transfer to Ukrainian rail (different rail gauge) and go to Lviv. The next day, we’ll go to the town where H’s grandmother lived before emigrating to the US. Will spend another day in Lviv, and then take a chartered bus to Berehove, a small town near the Hungarian border, where S2 and FDIL will get married at a winery they love. We’ll head back to Lviv, the border and then Warsaw to fly home.
There’s no commercial aviation into Ukraine, so it is a challenge to get there. Border crossings can take many hours. FDIL chartered a 29-passenger bus for four days for the round-trip from Lviv to Berehove, plus driver, side trips and shuttle to the venue. Cost: $400 total, plus about $150 for hotel and food for the driver. COL is very, very low.
I hope I can make it through this! It’s travel, but not much vacation. Am getting a cortisone shot in my knee, back, and a Covid booster before we go.
Going to do a long weekend on the Blue Ridge Parkway in June, will probably go see my dad while H is overseas in late June, and we’ll go camping for H’s birthday weekend in July.
We just returned from a two week road trip in Portugal. End of June/early July we will be on Martha’s Vineyard. Week after Labor Day we will be camping in Acadia.
I love the summers here where I live so much I hesitate to travel much until it gets cooler. We are going to SoCal for S’s graduation (Master’s) in June and will spend a few extra days there (we love that area). In July we are going to Virginia for a long weekend meetup with a bunch of H’s college classmates and their wives. But that’s it for summer.
H and I are seriously talking about taking the long awaited trip to Italy (postponed from 2020) in late fall. Fewer crowds, cooler weather.
Our annual trip to Isle of Palms, over Labor Day week.
Possibly some overseas travel next year, but that depends on many variables.
We’re going to see friends in Colorado in the next month and the kids in MN later in the summer with a possible side trip to Wisconsin. That’s all for now, but who knows what the fall holds.
I tried to book a group tour of Denmark, Sweden and Norway for August, but they were booked solid in August. They had a June opening, but airfare was outrageous to Copenhagen. The company had a discounted rate for France on June 3rd and I was surprised to see airfare to Paris was reasonable, so I booked it yesterday. Now I have less than two weeks to pack and work out the details.
Nothing too exciting this year - a week on the Cape and a trip to Chicago is all that I’ve got planned (plus a long weekend on Block Island with the hubby). We spent 2+ weeks in Italy last year and next year it looks like Spain & France so this year is one of our local travel only years.
We just spent 2 weeks in Italy. Two long weekend getaways planned for Sept/Nov so other than an out of town wedding in MI and trips to friends’ lake houses, I’m not going anywhere. Love reading everyone’s plans.
We will do a couple of weekend trips this summer, but otherwise we stay put to enjoy the beach here in San Diego.
H and I were talking the other day about what we wanted to do for a fall trip. Since we have done so many road trips to ski in the winter the past 4 years H said let’s go to Europe. He found $900 round trip tickets on British Airways San Diego direct to London and booked them for mid October. We will figure out where to go from there, but we have friends that will be in Portugal during this time and they said why don’t you come there. Since we haven’t been to Portugal before we are thinking of going to Lisbon and Porto and meeting up with them.
We just got back from a two week trip to South Africa. D is headed to Brussels in late June, so I am going to join her (she needed company - my excuse!). We have a family trip planned to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains in mid August. A trip to Florida during thanksgiving for a family wedding. Other trips will be short weekend, weekend+1day kind of trips.
We are at the beach right now. We could drive here, and bring our bikes. We’ve done lots of walking and biking.
We currently have no other vacations scheduled until September, when we are going to Italy. We are doing a 5 night guided bike trip, with a couple of days in Venice and Verona on each end. All was arranged by the same company.
We hope to get to some of the long bike paths within several hours of us between new and September, for couple of day trips. We are retired so will likely go mid-week.
