@mathmom, try Heat32 thermal undershirts for women. Buy them on Amazon. I’ve gotten several at Costco and I wear them under my sweaters during the cold weather. They wash and dry in about two minutes.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ll start a new topic. I think there are others who have been on a river cruise. If not it will be you and I! :joy:

@VeryHappy did you by chance mean 32 Degrees for the shirts? Searching for Heat32 and not seeing anything by that name.

@4kids4us : I think it’s the same thing. Here’s what shows up on my Amazon search when I enter Heat32 for women:

It’s cheaper for a 2 pack if you want them in black.

I quit taking clothes specifically for travel. I pick an outfit and wear it about 2-3 times depending on the length of the trip. When we went to Italy last May for 10 days I had a carryon and backpack. 4 day outfits, 3 for evening. I took one lightweight white knit jean jacket that would look nice if cooler weather and a floral moto jacket on the plane. I also roll my clothes.

The only travel clothes I would recommend if you wear sneakers are merino wool socks. My boys wore sneakers and regular socks and were suffering from the stink.

Awww, how I remember boys and the stinky socks!

For warm weather, I pack short sleeves (plus sweater, jacket etc). But to be ready if unexpectedly cool, I throw in a long sleeved white silky polyester tshirt for layering beneath if needed.

I’m always trying to correct for past packing mistakes. Like the time on a river cruise in 2019 when on two occasions I was caught unprepared in a tremendous downpour. Now I insist on packing a rain jacket if I think there’s even a tiny chance of rain. I’m also always afraid of being cold, so I pack a puffer jacket if there’s any chance of that. DH and I struggle with shoes. We both have big feet so our shoes take up a lot of room. I also pack a hat, usually my Tilley hat in sunny climates but otherwise at least a ball cap. I have some Chico’s Travelers pieces that I frequently take, like a basic black dress that I can dress up with a necklace or scarf. But even when dressing up, I wear pretty sensible shoes. I broke my leg once in 2014 while on a trip, and since then have been skittish about falling and injuring myself.

Shoes are always the problem. I’ve taken to leaving a pair of sneakers at both of my sons’ houses, so when I travel to visit them I wear the heavier pair on the plane and pack the lighter pair.

Yes, shoes are challenge for me too. More so if beach vacation - adds flip flops (luckily small) and aqua shoes (in case long and/or rocky walks). Mostly I like comfy shoes but something dressy too if needed. To spread things out, I Usually put one light pair of shoes at the bottom of my “personal item” backpack.

If I have closed shoes like a sneaker I stuff it with small items like socks, undies, headbands - anything that will fit!

On our Hawaii trip my DH brings his golf clubs. We pack some shoes in the golf travel bag. It’s so spacious that we usually throw a good size bag of dirty laundry in it for the trip home. This frees up space for souvenirs in the luggage…Kona coffee, chocolate covered Mac nuts, etc.

I use dirty laundry as packing material around our HI “loot”: big jars of honey. Of course, the jars go into ziplocks first. Never had a broken jar, but in the past, TSA stuck some fat fingers of theirs into a jar or two. :rage:

I wear the same clothes traveling that I do at home. Retired, so comfy and casual with something dressier for an evening out.

Shoes depend on the weather. Our last big trip (Christmas markets in Europe) meant booties with a heel, other ones suited to snow, ice, or rain, and shoes with a slight heel - ok for walking and good enough to go with the nicer trousers I’d brought for evenings and restaurants. Layering options - t necks, cardigan, shirt blouses are great for winter.

I have a cashmere shawl thing from Nordstrom that’s great for the plane. I usually bring a silk scarf or two and maybe another muffler, depending on temps. Hat - definitely. A packable down puffer, and I’m set.

Summer or nice weather means no boots, but I still avoid flats. Lightweight cardi to go over sleeveless tops, a skirt or two, and shorts and linen pants.

I don’t get people who take close to ratty things to wear and then toss. No way, no how. From the inside out, I want to look good and feel good.

Maybe 2023 will mean traveling again. I hope so.

I don’t take ratty things. I have a lot of nice things that I just don’t wear that often. Sometimes they are taken on trips…and left.

When we went to an equator country, I had some older but nice linen things. I knew they would be great for a hot and humid climate. I took them for that leg of the trip, and left them at the Peace Corp Hostel where my kid was. The folks there were happy to have them, and I knew I wasn’t going to use them again!

We were laughing so hard because younger DS said he could actually taste the stink in the room! Haha! I told them they had the option at a couple hotels to have them cleaned for $2 a pair or they could try washing them and they did that, but in satisfactory results.

I don’t take ratty things either. I take my new Costco pants and then toss. I don’t toss my Vuori or Lulu pants

If I bring item(s) to toss, it’s in decent shape… just tired of it. Love the way @thumper1 found a way to re-home some clothing on the trip.
