Traveling to Iowa from the South

We're hoping to do a visit to Iowa in mid May, and I really need help with traveling up there.

We're in the deep south, and there are no direct flights there, and I'm having trouble finding regular size planes that fly into Cedar Rapids airport.

Are there any nearby, two hours drive or less, airports that take regular size planes?

It doesn't have to be 737, but something that would have overhead storage space would be nice.

Since we're traveling from so far, I'd like to not check all of our bags.

One option would be to fly into Des Moines. It is an easy 1:50 drive to Iowa City along Interstate 80. Enjoy your trip!

My son is a junior at U of I and we live in South Texas. Flying to Cedar Rapids is very pricey. We fly to Chicago, then take a small plane to Quad City Airport in Moline, IL and then rent a car and drive the hour to IC. Good Luck.
