Tri-College & Penn

How many Swarthmore students actually take advantage of course offerings from Haverford, Bryn Mawr, and Penn?

My understanding is that more students come from Haverford and Bryn Mawr to Swat than vice versa. Penn is just trickier because of the distance, but if there’s a course being offered at Penn that isn’t available at Swat, students will make it work.

Recent grad here. Some entry level classes at Swarthmore can get filled quickly, like Intro to Computer Science. This can make it hard to “break in” to the department past sophomore year.

At Haverford, that class doesn’t have a cap, so one can take intro CS somewhere else and then complete all other requirements at Swarthmore.

In addition, I took creative writing classes at Bryn Mawr, because their creative writing program is much, much better. And I know that a bunch of people that have taken courses at Penn.
