Trinity University's Transfer Scholarships

Hey guys! Hope you’re well.

So, I’m currently a student here at Northwest Vista College (NVC) who was interested in transferring to Trinity University later on (maybe).

On their website, they didn’t give a specific amount regarding the scholarship they grant to their transfer students.

So, I want you guys to help me with this. Especially Trinity students. I want to know about all the full-ride scholarships available, or at least the merit scholarships/ Psi Theta Kappa scholarships and other easily-accessible scholarships available.

Here are my credentials:

Current GPA (25 credit hours done): 3.760.

Intending to transfer (maybe) after Sophomore year. So, please let me know what GPA I need to keep and how I can obtain scholarships to cover my entire tuition cost. Thank you so much in advance!

I would appreciate replies from anyone quickly! Especially Trinity University students.
Trinity students, please tell me about your own experiences and scholarships, and with my situation in mind, tell me how much I can get and through other scholarships too (Psi Theta Kappa). Is it worth going to Trinity if you are a pre-med, too?

Hey there! I’m a current student at Trinity, and while I am not a transfer student myself I will try and help out with my limited knowledge about the process.

I would guess that the merit scholarships mentioned on the transfer student page are very similar if not the same as the merit scholarships for incoming first years. There is a very standardized way to see exactly what your scholarship will be based on GPA and standardized test scores. As a transfer, I’m not sure exactly how they would calculate that or if they go by a different metric. The information about incoming first year scholarships can be found here: https://new.trinity.edu/sites/default/files/file_attachments/2019-20-scholarship-grid.pdf
Regardless, this is a question better suited for an admissions counselor who would be able to tell you for sure. The admissions department is so friendly and awesome (I sometimes volunteer in their office) and so I super highly recommend contacting them at admissions@trinity.edu

There are no full ride scholarships at Trinity, and an extremely limited number of full tuition scholarships that I think are reserved exclusively for first year students, but again, I could be wrong about that.

For the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship you must be an active member of the fraternity and I believe the scholarship is a maximum of $7,500.

You might also be eligible for a music scholarship by audition for a variable amount, and the Storer & Tillman Scholarship for Developing Christian Leaders, which specifically mentions that both first year and transfer students can apply.

All of that to say: contact the admissions department, they will know more and can give definite answers about all of this.

Best of luck

Thanks man for all the advice! But the thing is, since I’ll be a transfer student, I won’t have any standardized test scores to show, right?
So, for the Psi Theta Kappa scholarship, what does it mean by ‘upto’? Every Honors member receives a good scholarship right? The same amount or no?

Also, another thing. How is the pre-med program at Trinity? Would you recommend that I go there from NVC? What are the benefits of Trinity? Class size? Better professors? Or what?
Thank you in advance!

I do not know how the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship works, I just read on their website that they award up to $7,500 for bachelor degree programs. The phrase “up to” sounds to me like not everyone will get that amount, and you probably have to apply and be selected to receive it, not just everyone can get it.

The pre-med program is quite rigorous. Trinity is known for a bit of grade deflation. The people who make it through the program have a good chance of being accepted; the website states: “Trinity students who complete required courses with a GPA of 3.6 or higher have a success rate of 90%.” for getting into medical school. There is a lot of ‘self selection’ at Trinity. In my Organic Chemistry class the professor asked at the beginning of the course how many people were pre-med and almost every hand went up, but probably less than 20% of those people actually finished all the pre-med coursework and applied to medical school.

Trinity has many benefits and advantages! Firstly, the faculty is phenomenal. I know all my professors really well, just today I went out to lunch with a chem professor just because. They are open and accessible with office hours and super helpful in class and really care about your learning. The faculties at Trinity were ranked #1 in Texas and #6 in the nation by The Wall Street Journal.
Classes tend to be small, but with so many people taking the pre-med track, those required courses tend to be a little bigger, with maybe 20-25 people, whereas my upper division chemistry classes tend to have 5-10 people in them.
I personally love the research opportunities; you can get involved in real impactful research as a first year student, which is really difficult to do at a larger school, where graduate students tend to take the research positions. Research occurs in almost every department, too. One of my friends is doing research this summer into how we use gaming for education, looking intently into both video games and board games or RPGs like D&D. She’s also a history major.

One of the best ways to see the benefits of Trinity is to schedule an on campus visit and come see for yourself! Our admissions office is open over the summer and we’d love to have you come visit and take a tour of our facilities and talk to some students and faculty.

Thank you so much, man! I appreciate all the advice and hopefully, will come soon.

Yes, research opportunities are important. So, firstly, thank you for your help! Secondly, can you also tell me how hard it is to get into research programs at Trinity? Especially for a student like me? ^(my GPA and stuff listed above, and now I’ll also be a member of Psi Theta Kappa).

Also, are scholarships easier to get there; the ones for which you have to actually apply for. Are they easier to obtain at Trinity (since less people must be applying, etc.)?

Lastly, can you also tell me how and why you’re studying there? Like, how many scholarships are you on and your personal experience with earning scholarships there, etc.

I appreciate all your help so much, brother!
