Can anyone out there advise on the accommodations in a triple in Watson? Please comment on closet space, desk availability, beds (bunks?), and shelving. Also, is this short term until students leave for international studies, therefore opening up additional dorm space? Thanks in advance for your help

Watson triples are a bit of a tight squeeze, but definitely manageable. All rooms at Carleton come with bunkable beds, desks, chairs, and bureaus for each occupant. There is a fair bit of closet space, but I'm a person with few clothes/stuff -- at least I did in college.

The housing situation will be long-term -- students studying abroad don't live on campus at all during the term.

I'm pretty sure the Watson rooms will remain triples throughout the entire year. The rooms that students who go on study-abroad programs tend to vacate are singles, which Carleton doesn't let freshmen live in anyway. I don't think there will be any reshuffling of rooms for freshmen even if a significant number of students go abroad or on leave.

I imagine the way most students in the Watson triple will configure their rooms is to have one set of beds bunked and leave the other alone, or to triple-bunk all three beds. (At least, I think the triple-bunking is possible with those beds.) There ought to be three sets of desks and bookshelves as well. As far as closets go, though, half of the corners (x13 and x03, I think?) have three closets and have of them (x17 and x07?) have two closets and a half-sized third closet. I think that there are only two sets of drawers/mirrors in each room, though. Wait until your kid moves in and you actually see how the space will be used before you decide to get additional shelving or drawers from Target or something. The normal-sized closets are quite ample, but someone who gets stuck with one of the small ones might think about getting some drawers to put under a bed.

Thanks for your responses! We're planning on underbed storage; I was just wondering how all of you fared in the triple. We'll find out for ourselves in the not too distant future!

My son will be in a triple in Nourse. Since he "stores" his clothes on the floor at home, it will be interesting to see where he puts them at school. He's coming from Texas, so he isn't bringing a lot of things anyway...other than heavier clothing!

From what I've heard, there are about 50 more freshman than they expected this year, and no "summer melt."
