Could anyone explain to me Trojan Knights versus social frat? Cost? House? Rush? General type of kid in it? Mandatory Study hall?
How about the chinese or engineering frats? Any experience?
thanks

Since I'm a member of their sister organization, I could probably fill you in on the general stuff :)

The Knights are a lot like social fraternities except they are absolutely and completely obsessed with football and the school (its history, everything). If you went to the first game, you may have noticed boys in red and yellow body paint, standing in the front 3 rows, wearing cowboy hats, and loudly leading the SoCal cheer every time we scored a TD. Those were the Knights.

They're also the ones who guard the Victory Bell when it's in USC's possession, along with camping out 24/7 (literally 24/7) in front of Tommy Trojan the week before the USC vs. UCLA football game, to make sure Bruins don't come and try to vandalize it.

I'm not sure about the cost of fraternities/TK, so asking a Trojan Knight yourself would probably be the best way to go. I'd imagine it's a lot cheaper than a fraternity though.

The TK house is smaller than most fraternity houses, mainly because the Knights are a smaller organization than most fraternities. I know pretty much all of the Knights, and a lot of them are presidential/trustee scholars, and all are completely football-obsessed and very very social.

In the past, the Knights were a very party-based organization, but in the past few years, they've been trying to organize more community service events, and they do events like Knight Bowl.

If I talked about their rushing process, they would probably kill me, so I think I have to keep relatively quiet on that.

I'm not sure about Mandatory Study Hall either... if you have any specific questions, you should probably try to find a Trojan Knight and he can be more helpful than I have been. Let me know if you want more information, and I'll give you the contact information of the TK rush chair :)

I'm not sure about the engineering/Chinese fraternities either, so I can't help with that. Good luck!

I second talking to a Knight...they've been tabling on Trousdale this past week, perhaps they'll be there tomorrow as well. It is much cheaper than being in a frat. They are very social and VERY SPIRITED. I live in City Park and their house is right behind me and they can be heard doing SoCal spellouts and singing the Alma Mater (rather off key I must say) at 2 am.
Basically if you want to be in an organization that loves USC, football and tradition, then the Knights are a great place to start.
