Trojan Transfer Plan?

All we know is that our D went to CC right after JR year of HS. She got 4000 out of 4000 on GED exam and was allowed to enter CC. She got a 3.8 her 1st term at CC and asked us if it was OK for her to apply as a transfer to CC. We said, “Sure,” but didn’t really know what would happen.

She didn’t hear until very late July, when they told her she was accepted to begin January after she had completed 3 semesters at her CC. That was what she did.

For what it’s worth, her CC had NO articulation agreement with USC, as she’s the first student that her CC is aware of who transferred to USC. The USC admissions counselor assigned to HI was willing to work with her to confirm which courses would transfer if she was accepted as a transfer.

For those who got the transfer option and are interested, I’d contact the USC admissions person assigned to your child (based on where they live/went to HS), and ask them for guidance about which courses and Us may be better for transfer. They would have the expertise on this subject.

For whatever it’s worth, one of our friends said that their S went to visit USC with another friend. The boys were told that transfer opportunities were MUCH better for folks who enrolled in CC than those who enrolled in 4-year Us. The friend who was the child of USC parents and grandparents chose to enroll in CC, to optimize his chances of transferring into USC rather than attending a CSU of UC.

@prouddaddy I also went to a very good private prep school and pretty much everyone goes on to a 4 year college. The school was not happy that I decided to go to a cc more I think because it doesn’t necessarily look good for them. However, I decided that ccc was the best way for me to meet my goal of getting to USC. I have had a great freshman year, although it has not been “typical”. I joined a sport and love living in So Cal. To be honest, if I get in (I have a 4.0 gpa with 18 units so far) it will be hard to leave my cc.
I know you can transfer from any school but do look at the articulation agreements and the history of schools and the number who transfer to USC.
Also, I went to the meeting in June and am on the TTP.
I am now waiting to hear.

Our D was also attending a private prep HS and one of the few kids who ever attended a CC. Since she left after JR year, she didn’t count in their stats, but it was a great solution for her & us. It allowed her to bolster her confidence, GPA & get some credits that applied toward her USC requirements, plus it was VERY cheap! We have no regrets, nor does she.

Hi,
I wanted to follow up on this thread to let you know that I did get in after following the Trojan Transfer Plan. I was told to get a 3.6 in the classes I discussed with my counselor in June 2012 and to earn the proper number of credits. I earned a 3.9 for the year at my cc and was accepted to USC!!! It has been so worth it and I have had an awesome year at my cc! If you want to go to USC, work hard at getting the classes you need and then work really hard in the classes. Dedicating myself to following the TTP was worth it for me.

Congrats, Katie617! Hope you have the success you deserve at USC. My D loved her time there, as did my S. They are both proud Trojan alums. Fight on!

^^Thanks HImom!!^^
