Just as an open statement to the CC forum... I was reading through the various shameless "Chance Me" threads, and the acceptance results at some of the Top Tier schools, when I noticed a fascinating trend. Now, I know that there are some AMAZING applicants to these universities, but sometimes I just think to myself... "Dear Soandso, are you sure you are not a ROBOT?!?" I mean, if you've got it, you've got it! But... do you guys have any opinions on the extent to which kids on CC are trollin'?

Most kids appear to be really good, and they want affirmation to feel even better. I’d guess about one half are genuinely insecure.

Yea, it must be tough being a ROBOT in college.
–Ha, no I’m kidding, thank you for your opinion

I know you are kidding. It’s those kids that make all the others insecure, though ;)

There are plenty of ■■■■■■, but there are also a lot of people who are genuinely looking for some sort of reassurance, even though they probably already know their chances. I’ve never been a big fan of chance threads

I mess with them because despite their stratospheric Math SATs, they can’t read a general stats range of admitted students to their target schools. And I’ve also seen people looking for back slaps (atta boy!). Sheesh

I totally agree. I’m also baffled by people who say “Chance me and I’ll chance back”. If you don’t know your chances of getting in somewhere, how would you know other people’s chances? Somebody explain that one to me.
