theres someone from the school in the next town over from me who’s applying ED, (VT is a small state, so you learn these things) and from what I’ve heard he will probably get in because of a trustee recommendation.

2 questions

how much weight will this recommendation carry, he’s in the range, but my rank, scores are higher?

will it affect my decision? (I can’t imagine there arer many others applying ED from VT)

…i really don’t care if he gets in or not, as (to the extent that i know him) he seems like a really good kid, and is qualified, but will it affect the outcome of my application?

i know hernandez does her spiel about trustee recommendations, and how they can work against you if the person doesn't really know you (i dont know if this is the case with him) but i figure shes just telling people what they want to hear, because 99% of people won't be tagged by this.

does anyone have a real answer?

No that is the real answer, because there is a big difference in a trustee letter that states

* I have known John and Jane for X number of years and they are a really bright smart kid*

amd the trustee writing a letter in a different capacity from woprking on a project, having taught them etc.

Now if the trustee is writing the letter on behalf of their own kid... that is still a different story.
