Hi, I saw that in order to get the trustee scholarships from colleges such as BU and USC, you must apply by Dec. 1st. Does this mean that these colleges are binding and if I get in I have to go? I know USC does not have ED, but if I apply for the trustee scholarship at BU, is the decision binding?
USC - Anyone who applies by December 1st is considered for their scholarships including Trustees (which you interview to try to get after being notified you are a finalist). Notification is end of January, with interviews over the next several weeks. Getting a scholarship does not obligate you to commit in any way. USC does not have ED.
BU - I know nothing about BU but after a little web surfing, you apply by December 1st for scholarship consideration, completing an essay just for the Trustee Scholarship. Notification appears to be in March. ED application dates are Nov 1 and Jan 3 (for ED1 and ED2) so the scholarship essay has it’s own submission date.
A binding decision to attend only comes into play if you applied ED and are accepted, it is not tied to getting a scholarship. Separate processes.
For binding ED a form with the signatures of the applicant, the applicant’s parent, and the guidance counselor must be submitted. If you have not signed any type of binding agreement with either school I don’t see how getting the scholarship would make an acceptance binding. If there is any doubt you can contact the two schools to confirm that is the case.
I got into BU class of 2021 but when i click on the scholarship tab it says that decisions are not available on line. Has anyone found out about trustee scholar decisions yet? and do they tell you if you didn’t get it?
@rowdyfries Yes,I believe a couple of individuals found out about trustee scholar decisions on Saturday. You can look at the BU discussion thread and flip through the last dozen or so pages since Saturday morning. Otherwise, call BU and ask. Good luck!
