Does anyone know how many students are awarded Trustee scholarship each year? Thanks.

30% of incoming students are awarded some sort of merit aid from Rice. Data specifically Trustee is not available. However, the Trustee scholarships are quite competitive to get.

We had 13 students from our school accepted to Rice. as far as I know, only 3 of them were awarded the trustee scholarship. Suprisingly, the people who got them weren’t the most-qualified based on statistics, but were well rounded and quirky. I was shocked when I was awarded the scholarship, while our valedictorian wasn’t. after thinking about it, however, i feel that i was a better match for rice and had awesome essays try to shine through in your essays & show what impact you could have with a Rice education

I agree with muffinlover… the people who tend to get the “Trustee’s Scholarship” are not necessarily those with the best stats, but instead with personality and talents that will add tremendously to the Rice student body. People who get it include: math/science competition winners (i.e. Siemens, Intel, etc.), students with tremendous leadership abilities, excellent writers, passionate volunteers, and “bridge builders” across different cultures/races. Check out the Merit Scholarship links on the Rice financial aid website to see a more in-depth description. I hope I’m not making it sound like it is impossible to get (I have many friends who got it), but it is still not easy to get either.
