truth about the students?

I know that UChicago advertises that its students love to learn...but how true is this? Is the average student there really that interested in learning?

Of the UChicago students that I know (I don't know that many, though), few are really that interested in learning...Yes, they do well in their classes, and yes, they're more curious than the average American, but I don't really see them as the type of people who have ever really tried learning anything outside the classroom--they enjoy what they're forced to learn at school, but not so much that they'll do it for fun at home (or in the dorm, or anywhere else), too.

What do you guys think?

My experience with UC students is that they are brilliant, curious, creative, and funny. Not that I like the place or anything...
Seriously, I think Chicago advertises itself more honestly and accurately than just about anywhere else. And why not? They're looking for a very particular kind of student, and they market accordingly. It works for both sides.

The feeling that I got from UChic students is that they're more studious than students on most campuses. In a lot of colleges, parties, extra-curriculars, work, etc have minimized the academics. But UChic is really all about the academics with some fun on the side. About students learning outside the classroom, they're busy people. How many people, no matter how much they love learning, is willing to study than go have fun?
