I'm still pretty bummed that I have to go to UVA instead of Rice because Rice costs 21 k more per year and my parents won't pay the extra money.

I realize though that there's still a good chance I'll have a fun time and good education at UVA.

Get me excited. How are the drinking and partying and football games and classes?

No one should get you excited to be coming to such a good school. If you don’t feel excited, sucks for you buddy, you should go to another school. Realize that you have just taken someone else’s spot that really wanted to go to UVA, but couldn’t. You clearly don’t deserve to go to UVA.

BTW, I just read the ridiculous post you made on the Caltech message board…it’s pretty sad that you’re not going to Rice.

I already paid my deposit. Look, I never aid I wasn’t grateful for the opporunity to be at UVA, it’s just that Rice is a special school with a residential college system, very small classes, etc.

Look, I am grateul that I get to go to a great school like UVA, I know I will probably have a pretty good time.

I just wanted people to answer my questions. How is the drinking, partying, and football games? How many days a week do people usually party, just wondering? 3?

“it’s just that Rice is a special school with a residential college system, very small classes, etc.”

UVA is an underfunded state university and an unspecial school in every regard at best. We lack a community and our classes average 700 undergraduates+. We don’t compete with Rice at all and we should become a tier 4 school. It really sucks that your parents don’t want to pay for you to go to Rice, if you come to UVA, you will surely join the other thousands of students in AA, as everyone clearly drinks and parties everyday and never studies.

Seriously…stop being so ungrateful and be thankful that you have the wonderful opportunity to go to UVA. There are some people (like myself) who would LOVE to be in your shoes. UVA was the school of my dreams…yet because I didn’t get in, I have settled for another school and am now excited to go there. People like you make me really sad. You have to get yourself excited to go someplace…it’s not something you can find on this message board.

Maybe you would present yourself better by saying “I need help getting pumped for UVa because I am disappointed that I am not going to my dreamschool (Rice) that I was accepted to and won’t be going to because of financial reasons”. Many of us have a tendancy to get a bit defensive when we feel the school we have choosen is getting bashed. I would suggest looking at some UVa utube videos to get excited about the school. I’m turning down Rice for UVa. I’m sensing that you would outgrow Rice rather quickly and will be very happy at UVa. It is such a thrill to get accepted to your dream school and ever so disappointing to not be able to go there for financial reasons. I’d say UVa is the better of the two as a party school so focus on that if you need to for now. Or read about what they have to say about the girls at Rice and the grils at UVa. Works for me.

Well I tend to enjoy complaining about UVa but the things you mentioned are all there (actually tend to be things I don’t enjoy about UVa). Partying can be done all week long if you really want it. Although most of the larger parties are on the Thurs-Saturday time frame. Drinking is part of the norm here, but it is not as wild as some schools are. Football games are ridiculous and so are many other lesser sporting events like lacrosse. Classes are not a joke- there aren’t that many “easy” classes even in traditionally easier disciplines. Status matters big time though- make sure you get into a good fraternity if that is your thing.

I chose UVa over Duke(my dream school) and Rice for financial reasons, but not limited to them. UVa is a friendly school, a place which I believe can make me happy as well as mature.
Be more appreciative. You dont throw out these words and simply ask for others to tell you why you should fell happy. It’s all your own attitude.

Brown was my dream school, but I didn’t get in - and now that I’ve accepted a place at UVa, I find myself really excited about it. It’s important to have a positive attitude - think that this is for the best. Really, with the limited view you get before arriving at a college, there is no way to know for sure where you will have the best experience.
Here’s a list to get you EXCITED:
*UVa has three residential colleges (Brown, Haverford, IRC)
*the food is actually rather decent!
there is an amazing bagel/coffe/breakfast shop on the corner
*beautiful campus
*long history - from thomas jefforson to the present
*#2 top public university (behind berkley)
there is a greek life - and while it’s prominent, lots of people aren’t in it. You have so many social options that you’re bound to find something you love.
*the sports teams roc! Baseball just made it to the college world series
*classes are actually pretty small, esp. past intro courses. I don’t know what gave you the idea that all UVa classes are in some kind of lecture hall. During an admitted students day I sat in on a first year writing class - with less than 10 people in it!
*atmosphere of respect, integrity, and equality
*there are lots of cool clubs (political, ethnic, interest, religious) as well as varsity, club, and intermural sports teams
*Most freshman dorms are near the aquatic fitnesss center
*nice climate (sooo better than Rice)
*public = students from all economic backrounds

Go do some research and make your own list of special UVa perks!
