Trying for National AP Scholar junior year

Won't be taking Calculus AB course - going directly to BC. Will have 7 AP courses/tests at end of junior year:

Bio, World History, American History, English, Chemistry, Physics B, Calculus BC

Should I take the Calculus AP AB test just to get my number to 8 and qualify for National AP Scholar? My other option is to self-study Env Sci and take that one. Which would be easier?

You cannot take both Calculus tests in the same year.

i didn’t know that . thanks!

i am trying to do the same thing - this year im doing psych and human geography (soph)

next year (jr) im doing ab bio both econ enviro and euro

OK. Sounds like Calculus AB is ‘out’ for me.

Feel good about the Bio and World Hist I took this week. Looks like my choices are to self-study one of the three below. Which is easiest to self-study:

Psych, Human Geo or Env Sci?

Psychology. Possibly ES as well, but I haven’t taken it so I can’t vouch for it.

If getting college credit isn’t a big deal, self-study Human Geo. It has the reputation of being the easiest AP.

Yeah I’m trying to do the same thing…

Sophomore:
AP US
AP Human Geo

Junior:
AP English Lang
AP Macro
AP Bio
AP US Govt
AP Enviro (self)
AP Pysch or AP Micro (self)

Self study Environmental or Human Geography. I think ES requires less work 5, even though I studied more for it. Psych is also an option. Anyway, since you asked about Environmental Science, I’d advise doing that.

I can only speak for Psych, but Psych was mucho easy. You only need about 20-30 hours of studying spaced out over a few weeks to a month or two to get a solid 5.

Can someone tell me what you need for the AP Scholars’? Like all of the AP awards

[AP: Scholar Awards](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Qualifying for an AP Scholar Award – AP Students | College Board)

If you take Calc BC, you get an AB subscore.

the AB subscore doesn’t count as an AP score and doesnt work for the awards. I actually am trying for this as well. I took 7 AP’s last year (sophomore) and got 6 5’s, and I took 6 more AP’s this year. All I need is 2 4’s for the award

Just curious again. Do you have to take all 8 in the same year to get National AP Scholar?

@CompSciGeek
No.

^^ can’t get lower then a 4 average too :open_mouth: (but obv you’ve got it, congrats).

The easiest self study tests are by far Psych, ESci, Human Geo, and any languages you take already (so if you are in Spanish 4, taking the AP Language test wouldn’t be too hard).

Good luck!

Definitely self study psychology - the multiple choice is largely vocabulary based and so are the FRQs. The Barron’s review book has everything you need to get a five, just read through it a week in advance and possibly make flash cards.

You could self-study Comp-Sci too… another easy one if you’re good at math and computer logic.
