I applied to the Smith Business School and instead was accepted into Letters & Sciences for the Fall. Does anyone have any insight on the most effective way to request being reconsidered for the Smith Business School. Has anyone had any success in getting this done or is this a lost cause? Your experiences and your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If you go back and search history on the UMD forum, you can find past discussions about this. I do not know of many people who were successful in changing before they began school, but you can certainly enroll and take courses necessary to meet requirements, and apply to transfer in (they will be particularly interested in you having good grades, etc.). As an LEP, by definition they have a cut-off of how many initial acceptances they offer. Others can give you better insight.

Like APM said, the Business majors in Smith are LEPs. I don’t know for certain the likelihood of transferring before you start, but the advisors in LTSC (Letters and Sciences) know what the requirements are for getting into Smith, and can be extremely helpful in figuring out what courses to take before applying into the school once you’re a student here, to meet the program’s requirements, as well as the general education requirements.
