Trying to Make a Final List of Where I Should Apply. Duke? McGill?

<p>I'm trying to narrow down the colleges and get a list of about 5
schools that I have a good chance of getting into.</p>

<p>Stats:
Rank - 35/327
GPA - 3.86/4.00
SAT - 1270(690M 580V) - last try in November
SAT II - 700 BioM, 700 MathIIC, took writing last Saturday
AP - Bio 4, US Hist 2</p>

<p>Full schedule of honors and AP classes all 4 years. I have taken all
science classes offered at my school</p>

<p>EC's:
Robotics - 4 years - Captain
Stock Market - 4 years - VP
Science League - 3 years
Academic League - 3 years
Math League - 3 years
Tennis - 2 years
NHS - 2 years</p>

<p>Volunteer at hospital</p>

<p>Born and Raised in NJ. Siblings go to RU. Dad got doctorate from U Chicago.</p>

<p>Schools I was thinking about:</p>

<p>Rutgers
Duke
McGill
U of MD
Penn State
JHU</p>

<p>I really wanted to go to Cali but I think that my chance of getting
into any UC is close to zero. Do I have a chance of getting in? Are
any of the schools I listed considerably better or worse then the
others in Biology?</p>

<p>first, with your SAT, you have a very very slim chance of getting into JHU and Duke.</p>

<p>You can get into Penn State, U of MD, and Rutgers.</p>

<p>You have a very very slim chance of getting into the UC's</p>

<p>what made you think you had a better chance at duke or JHU than at UC schools? that's not true at all, especially for duke. yeah, you probably don't have a very good chance at duke or jhu, as neelesh said.
you could try some of the lower uc schools like UCD or UCI if you really wanted to go to california, they're not bad a bio</p>

<p>McGill is a <em>very</em> good school. It's cheap. You will be in a completely different environment. I highly recommend it.</p>

<p>Have you considered Northeastern? Great location and beautiful campus. Its hiring a ton of profs from the top schools and has an awesome co-op program! You could co-op at any of the top medical schools in the Boston area like Mass General, Childrens Hospital, Brigahm and Womens, etc.. which will look good to medical schools and employers.</p>

<p>Well, I'm not the OP but I think McGill is the only university with good reputation and "American feel" on the east side. UT may be an option, but I am not sure if he will like it too much -</p>

<p>i think you have a good shot at some uc schools because ur out of state. your gpa isn't bad, sat scores need to be raised. which ucs did u want to apply to?</p>

<p>McGill is a great school and with your stats you have a good chance at getting in. If you're looking science I'd also recommend U of T and UBC, however you are right that McGill has the reputation in the US that the other schools don't. McGill is also located in Montreal, one of the most awesome cities in the world :D If you want any info on McGill let me know :) I'm a freshman science student here as well so if you want the feedback on what it's like studying science here I'd be happy to help.</p>

<p>I wanted to apply to UC Berk, UCSD, and Davis but I think that the only one that I have a realistic chance of getting into is Davis. Any thoughts?</p>

<p>Also, with Northeastern, can anyone elaborate on it? How is their bio program? I think that they sort of get overshadowed by BC and BU.</p>

<p>Lastly, what are my chances at McGill? 50% chance of getting in or so?</p>

<p>It's very hard to estimate your chance to McGill since it's Canadian.</p>

<p>Though those of us that are American, and go to McGill, can probably give him a fair idea, because we know what stats got people in/didn't get people in, and what calibre student we see her (and there are TON of US students here!)</p>

<p>I'd say over 50% of getting in..., your high GPA makes up a bit for your low SAT verbal score.</p>
