Trying to make my family move?

I hate where my family lives. I am a teen so still have to live at home. What would be a way to ask my family to move but without really asking: "Can we move." I do not want to bother or annoy them. Should I brag about the opportunities that the area I want to go to has? Where I live, the school I go to has no clubs other than sports and I want to do more things at a school and be more social. I currently am not very social at my school.

Thank you for helping me.

Yeah, I don’t think your family is going to go for it… they kind of need to keep their jobs, which is a lot more important than your social life. If you want to interact with others more and there aren’t opportunities at your school, then do something in the community. I’m sure there’s lots that you’re ignoring.

If your currently a junior, then I would suggest just to finish your last year at your current high school… unless the current high school you’ve havent attended there for 10th or 9th grade. Though if your school is really bad, then I’m not that asure.

Your family is not going to move because of you. End of story.

There are other clubs than just the ones at your school.

Not move because of me?? Oh I forgot you know me, my family and where I go to school. Newsflash: My school only has ONE yes ONE club. Sorry to sound rude but please don’t judge me!!

Thank you to the rest of the folks who kindly gave me ideas and suggestion. You’re very helpful. I will use YOUR suggestions.

Wow, you’re right, I don’t know you. All I know is what you posted. You don’t have a reasonable reason to move, and therefore any reasonable family would not move because your school is boring.

Unless you’re going to post your entire life story on here then don’t get mad when people offer you advice you don’t want to hear. We don’t know you so we are going to talk in general. How else would you expect us to respond? Of course we know you and your entire situation, so how dare we try to offer any advice that isn’t exactly catered to your situation!

I remember now why I stay off of HSL for the most part now.

If you didn’t want any other opinion than EXACTLY what you wanted to hear, why post on here anyways? Don’t yell at people for giving you advice when that is exactly what you asked for. I offered you advice. Don’t bite my head off because it’s not what you wanted to hear.

I’m in a somewhat similar situation, where the only organizations my school really has besides NHS are theatre a basically defunct “Spanish” club. It’s kind of an annoying situation, but I’m fine - and my parents have good jobs… I think you should just stay at your school and make the best of it (as horribly cliche as that sounds). Are you wanting to move because you really are genuinely unhappy or just because you want to get in some more organizations to pad your college applications? And I don’t want to sound judgmental, but do you realize how much trouble it is to move? Especially with this economy, it’s not just a matter of quickly selling your house and then smoothly making the transition into another one.

^ And how expensive it is? And how hard it is to sell a house in this market?

How about going to a different school in the area, or a private school? In most such situations, people go further out for schools.

Yes because your parents are going to go through the process of moving simply so that you can attend a school that has more clubs.

You need to be smacked back into reality. It’s not easy to pick up and move. If your parents own a house, it’s even harder to move and the incentive isn’t strong enough. Even if your parents don’t own a house–trying to lease a good place takes time, moving is expensive and requires a lot of planning, and well, maybe they enjoy living there. Have you ever though of your parents’ happiness above yours?

If you hate your school then transfer to a private school. If you’re unable to do that then suck it up until you’re old enough to move out.

Sorry, but this is an extremely bad time to sell your house, so I would not even dream of moving unless the need were dire. Have you tried volunteer work after school? You will meet some interesting people from other schools, in fact all walks of life.

You could even start your own club…how about an internet club that teaches computer skills to the elderly.

Keep thinking and use your imagination.

I remember when I was in a similar situation as you, and sometimes still. Though my reasons have a lot of factors. Though now as a 11th grader, and year is almost over, I remembered that I actually would like to graduate with my school class of 2010, and actually see them at high school reunion. Many post are right, selling a house in this economy may not be easy/ quick. My mom, who actually have intentions to move, whether it will be over this summer, or next summer… due to moving into a smaller house. It seems likely that she will be moving in summer of 2010 ( that’s when she plan, but may move before) before I go off to college. Though our house has been brought over and over, and I guess in the situation… gladly my mom have only been renting it. See if there are any other schools in the area, for easy transportation by your parents… if your parents are renting… see how long their lease is.

The poster is in 8th grade, lol. Nice person though. The economy is terrible, no one can sell their house. My parents would have LOVE to move, but can’t:(. It’s not their job either, dad works from home and mom is a teacher. But people have had house up for market for 2 years now. They don’t get anyone to look at it anymore. Also, there may be more clubs in high school. Middle School will have less. You sure you know everything about your high school? You haven’t been there yet. I’m not trying to be rude at all, just trying to help you. You sound like a nice kid:)

well you can always ask,
it can’t hurt,
the worst they can say is “no”

or instead of asking
you can just complain about how little there is to do at your school
and say stuff like “i wish we lived in a different town”

You have no chance =/

Conversations don’t usually go, “I’m bored of this place, let’s move out.”
“Okay son, how 'bout LA? I heard the weather’s better over there.”

Honestly, it’s just a completely ridiculous notion, lol.

Blunt honesty isn’t a cause for verbal retaliation. You’ll end up ignoring a lot of good advice if you keep this up.

This is unrealistic

early_college: It is very interesting to see how different people come from different places that have different sizes of people. My school is so small that the high school, middle school and elementary are in one building. We all know each other and there are about 800 kids in the whole school. It’s quite funny to know everyone but it can be odd. Another thing I am doing now is writing to the school board to see if they will allow more clubs.

early_college: How large is your High school and the rest of the district?

That’s just ridiculous and unrealistic. Like previous posters said, your parents’ jobs are way more important than clubs at school. It’s not easy to just pack up and move somewhere, you know.

You need to take advantage of what is offered where you go to school, or take initiative to create new programs. If there’s no student government association at your school, create one, that would be really worthwhile. Do things like that, create programs to get other kids involved because if there’s only 1 club at your school, chances are that no one at your school really cares about extracurricular activities.
And about being social, if you really want to be more social and change, do it at the school you’re at right now. It’s not that hard, just try starting up more small talk with people in your classes. Eventually get to know them better and voila, you’re more social.

Start a club yourself and stop whining. Your poor parents have to put up with your nonsense.
