Hey hyakku, I'm a junior from Jersey, too, and I'm really liking the sound of Vanderbilt.

I'm also a junior in NJ and I HATE the weather. I am looking at Rice, UCB, GaTECH!!! and some other warm-weather good-BME program schools. Look into those I guess. I fell in love with GaTech when I visited there.

I know you told another member on here that you didn't want an Ivy League school but I'd really recommend looking at the University of Pennsylvania. It's known as "the party school" of the Ivy League and isn't NEARLY as cutthroat as the HYP type of places. If you're considering Columbia because you think it might be more "fun" you should definitely look at Penn.

Some other suggestions (after giving it more thought): New York University (NY), Vanderbilt University (TN), College of Charleston (SC), Drexel University (PA), Georgetown University (Wash DC), Emory University (GA), George Washington University (Wash DC).

lol.. hyakku.. i meant hat it was possible.. not impossible.. sorry about the mix-up...

So it is possible to get financial aid? UCLA/UCB interest me a bit but I didn't think it would be viable with the cost.

I was considering NYU Little but th weahter still has me leaning more south, emory I'll look into as well.

So far my top choices seem to be U Miami by far then USC, and now that I discovered I may get some financial aid UCLA/UCB are sounding alright. Cali/florida is really where I wanna be.

What do people think about me applying to stanford? I think if I can break 2200 I have a good shot seeing as how I've got good ECs (well I've worked since I was 14 and I do help my mother with $$ if she needs it, along with some other things).

definitely apply to UCLA and UC-Berkeley, they will give you some Fin.Aid and you definitely see their packages before you decide...

does anyone know about any fin aid for OOS students or have any experience first hand with a student dealing with it.

I really think you should consider UNC. Its cheap, prestigious, and has an amazing party scene.

To clarify, I'm not saying that UCB & UCLA don't provide need-based aid to OOS students at all, just that they typically are NOT going to be as generous as similarly-ranked private schools and public institutions that essentially operate as private entities (e.g., UVA).

Looking at Kiplinger's "100 best values in public colleges" data, UCB and UCLA are listed as meeting 89% and 83% of need, on average. While this is actually pretty good amongst public unis, it is substantially lower than many of the top private schools, which meet 100% of need. It should be noted that UNC and UVA also have a policy of meeting 100% of need. Moreover, the UC schools have a very low % of OOS students, so I can't imagine they'd be too excited about giving great aid to them, when there are plenty of well-qualified OOS admits willing to pay full frieght.

So I stand by my contention that their are much better deals to be had, from a financial perspective, than applying OOS to the UC system.

I know you already have it on your list, but USC is a great choice. I'm also from Jersey & I'm headed there next year. Location (distance from family) + weather were important factors. And the night life there is amazing.

Their financial aid is also incredibly generous.

What do you want to study?

Oops - THERE (not their) are much better deals to be had... (time for editing has expired)

Well let me ask, out of the schools suggested what are some ones with good anthropology / psychology programs?
