Hello all I’m trying to finish getting my college list together before i hit my senior year and start applying and all. So far my list is something like:

University of Miami

USC

UCLA

UCSB

U of A / ASU (undecided on this one)

Penn state (possibly)

I’m trying to get away from home (Jersey) and not near VA either as alot of my family lives there, not that I don’t love them but I wanna try living on my own. I don’t really wanna be in places where it gets to cold at any time of the year, all this new york/ jersey winters i hate, I want the lowest it usually gets to to be around 50 degrees, which limits it closer to the south. A large (at least 7000+ or so) student body is good and diversity is even better. Also I’m looking for more places with good academics but also a party place where there’s alot to do in the city. My stats:

Black Male from Jersey
4.1 GPA W (3.7 or 3.8 UW)
2050 SAT (will go up)
Held down part time job since 14
Some ok ECs, alot of things in the church

Anyone can help add some schools to my list?

Stanford University (if you can improve your SAT by say 100 points, it becomes a realistic reach)
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
University of Texas-Austin

First off, Worried student I know its the weakest fit on my list, but the parties are ridiculous, the honors college is good, and I know a few people up there, but that's more of a backup in case something occurs where I wanna stay up here.

Firstkid, I was thinking about UCSD, but I hear the social life is kind of iffy over there.

Lol flyboy, ironically vandy just sent me a letter today in the mail, its not looking to bad.

I'm gonna look at UT - Austin though as they have already mailed me and I was thinking about them before.

I think you could aim higher. Tons of top schools are fun, I suggest UNC-CH and UVA (you can still avoid your family). Both are more diverse than people realize. I think they'd be great fits.

OOS tuition at the UC schools is redonkulous, and there isn't much financial aid to be had either. So if cost is a consideration, there are far better deals to be had.

1.Princeton University
2.Brown University
3.Stanford University
4.New York University
5.CUNY Honors College
6.University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
7.Binhampton University
8.University of Chicago
9.University of Pennsylvania
10.University of Delaware

Eh well I'm not really aiming for the ivy league though I do expect my new SAT to be around 2150 + I'd rather have a really enjoyable experience. I was thinking of maybe addin on big reach for fun like Columbia , and I may add stanford (I know its a big reach but that seems pretty great considering its location and prestige), and University of Michigan would be gr eat but the cold is my enemy.

I (as someone who went to Columbia) can easily vouch that it has the worst party scene of any Ivy. Campus is dead on many weekend nights.

Most fun top schools (biggest party scenes): Dartmouth, Duke, Princeton, Brown, Stanford, UNC-CH, Michigan Penn. UCLA's scene is actually not that great, UNC looks like mardi-gras in comparison.

I'd also suggest UW-Madison. One of the best college towns around, great parties, great academics.

Don't bother with UCSD. The school is dead.

Complete bull. Stanford is not a party school and UCLA is very fun. There's tons to do on campus and in Westwood.

I lived at UCLA for a while. I should have been more specific, I meant that it was no UNC-CH. Its probably better than Stanford. My experience was that UCLA was an OKAY scene (only a couple of bars - Maloneys and Brew Co (plus Acapulco Mondays) and the frats/ house parties.) Chapel Hill is much more alive with Franklin Street being much more a party scene than Westwood and tons of house parties.

Well I only suggested Columbia because I have friends that live in 152nd and all so its pretty close I like that its in Harlem.

Umm I've got my list s follows now:

U Miami

USC

UT - Austin

UCLA

Stanford will probably be my reach

Penn State

UCSB

Possibly Vanderbilt....

U of A
Also how bad are winters in like wisconsin or michigan?
