TSAO phone call?

Doesn’t sound like “status of the application” to me.

The OP could be panicked that he/she opened a can of worms!

Since the OP has a grand total of one post, I’m calling ■■■■■.

Reminds me of the posts from that obnoxious dad 2 years ago who bragged that the exeter & andover coaches already leaked to his son that he was being admitted.

I thought the coaches were not allowed to make contact w the candidates past a certain date.

I am editing, I have changed my opinion.

@squashisawesome…I think Rellielou’s point is that AOs read this forum (see Mr. Mitchell’s involvement on the recent Loomis portal thread) and that perhaps paintballknee has “overshared” in a way that could put his candidacy at Hotchkiss in jeopardy. Loose lips sink ships and all that. (Which is what I was getting at with my “Tea Leaves” post in the first place.)

The advice “veteran” parents give here is generally not meant to have a chilling effect, but rather to protect you kids from yourselves.

@sevenDad , I see your point now. I have edited my post.

The timing after GMTs “Don’t be a jerk thread” is interesting.

The sound you just heard was Maria Hotchkiss rolling over in her grave. :)

Wow, the answers (and speculation) were more than I expected. Thanks for your responses. To clarify, it was a conversation with an actual person from the admissions office of a school from the TABS list my child compiled – these acronyms are plentiful – and it was about an admission but with less financial aid than requested. We didn’t know the school would notify us ahead of time and thought it would just be a yes or no when decisions are released next week. That’s what took us by surprise. Apparently this is a fairly common practice, but we were not aware of it. I didn’t expect so much discussion around the issue, nor did I intend to provide fodder for the masses. For those that replied directly, I appreciate your information. With all of that said, I don’t plan to comment further on this specific issue – we will make our decision on our own, privately. Good luck to everyone on March 10 or thereabout.

Right. The FA piece would have been helpful to know. Good luck!

It was entertaining to see so many replies and speculations

paintballknee, you might want to delete your comments regarding a specific school. Just in case there are folks there reading these boards- it will not reflect well on you and they should easily deduce who made the posts.

I agree with Rellielou’s comment. Take it down right away!

I am pretty sure posts cannot be deleted after a hour … Unless the new CC allows that.

The school cannot fault me for being honest. I appreciate all of your concern, and see that I acted without much prior thought. In the future, I will review my comments more thoroughly before I make them. However, I don’t believe an admission decision can be based on an innocent, truthful statement. There is no way to take down the post now, but thanks for the advice, everyone. Good luck on the 10th

It’s so late in the game now…

Unfortunately, the school can fault you for being honest; they might teason, why offer a place to a student likely to yield to another school? Still, I suspect that it’ll all turn out okay for you.

And OP–sorry for the speculation, but the FA issue really does give your original question a completely different twist and would have been helpful to know up front. Sounds like the school is trying to determine how best to allocate its FA dollars before March 10.

And there are lots of excellent TABS schools that don’t have the strict no-contact rules of the TSAO schools. We knew several people last year who were contacted with that “do you want to be admitted FP, WL for FA or do you want to be rejected” kind of question-- but none of them were TSAO schools (although that’s JUST my experience). I still think that Hotchkiss coach thing actually sounds like it IS breaking the agreement.

@paintballknee, I don’t think your post is likely to be a deciding factor, but I also agree with many others here that it’s better be overly cautious now than regret later. If you make a request to CC moderators, they would honor reasonable requests anytime and remove your reply. If you would, what you need to do is to find your reply, click on ‘Flag’ and select 'Report." You just need to briefly describe that you made a potentially self-identifying post inadvertently and you wish to have it removed.

How did it go, paintball? Hope M10 was good for you!
