Hey,

Stealing the idea of ParisKM (hehe), I decided that I would've wanted someone to be here as a recent admit to tell me what I could do to better my chances of getting in. If you have any questions about the Tufts admission process and what I did to get in, feel free to ask!

Hey there..

Is Tufts strict about SAT/ACT scores? If so, in your opinion, whats a decent SAT/ACT score which would not hurt my application?

Thanks

It would not appear so, but they seem to want roughly a 1300 or higher math and verbal, or a 30 or higher composite on the ACT. If you plan on applying RD, these numbers will edge up to 1350 and 31, and again, these are numbers for those who have decent EC's. Tufts is not "strict" about test scores, as they first look to rigor of courses, and the overall candidate, demonstrated interest in tufts, etc.

Do you know if legacy plays an important part at Tufts?
My brother's there now, so that would make two in the family there at the same time. Do you think that would play to my advantage?

It would help, but not much, Tufts is not huge on legacies like Yale, Notre Dame, etc tend to be. However, it will help, and will of course help with financial aid (if you need it), due to him already being there.

Tufts looks for a SAT as high as possible - My advice would be to shoot for at least a 1400. 1300 is too low.

As another Tufts '10er, I just want to jump in and mention something: if you're really interested in Tufts, then DEFINITELY do the additional optional essay question. Writing it doesn't guarantee that you'll get in, and ignoring it doesn't mean you'll be rejected. But the committee will be impressed that you took the extra time to write another essay (and thus hints that you're actually interested in attending Tufts, as opposed to it being one out of your twenty-three college applications), and that gives you an edge on your application.

I only had a 30 ACT Worldband, so it is most definitely possible for ED.
