Tufts Athletics/Admissions Help?

I am currently a junior in high school, and Tufts is close to the top of my list. I’m hoping to join the swim team (women’s) in college, and my times are within mid-range of this year’s times for Tufts. My GPA is a 97-98 (W) on a 100 scale and scored a 33 on my first ACT (still waiting on retake score report). I also volunteer for the district swim club and outside teaching opportunities. I’m wary of the costs of admission, as I understand that D3 schools can’t offer any athletic-based scholarships and Tufts offers very few merit-based. Does meeting with the coach affect my chances of admission at all? Is it worth meeting with the coach for recruitment if my times are only mid-tier within the team’s?

Connecting with the coach is vital. There’s an athletics forum here on CC. Just search using the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner on the mobile app.

And reach out to the coach NOW if you are a junior.

Your stats put you solidly in the academic mix.

Reach out to the coach now via email…only the coach will be able to assess your times and whether they fit what he is looking for.

Fill out the online recruiting questionnaire as well. http://www.gotuftsjumbos.com/sports/wswimdive/recruitForm

Follow up with a phone call to the coach/asst. coach. They will likely start pre-reads for rising seniors on July 1.

Do these same actions with any other schools on your list…it’s best to cast a wide net.

If you’re concerned about costs to attend you should run the NPC. You are correct that D3 schools don’t offer athletic scholarships. Tufts states it meets 100% of demonstrated need, the key word being demonstrated.

D3 coaches have limited recruiting budgets so you will need to take the initiative with any schools that you are interested.
