i have a few safeties already (UCI, UCSB)

ppl are telling me i have no chance at tufts ...is it really that hard to get into if im studying econ?

Why only two years of Spanish?

Econ is irrelevant.

i took span 1 in 8th grade. i hated spanish never really had a good grasp of conjugations and crap

yeah doode...i just found out tufts is really, really hard to get into now..which is confusing cuz flopsy and uclari say im a match for LA...and LA is a lil better then tufts..oh well

My friend was accepted early with lower sats and a similar uw GPA. He has a few EC's but nothing spectacular. I think you definitly have a shot.

well, him doing Early decision must have helped incredibly. But ppl are just telling me how Tufts is a pseudo ivy now and its incredibly difficult to get into now and I was like i know tufts is a good school but i didnt know admissions was THAT hard. I thought id be pretty okay with Tufts LOL but i guess not

There must have been a reason why his friend was accepted. ED has the same impact on admissions as showing a lot of interest in a school. but at the better schools, ED is more selective than RD, which is why some deferred students eventually get admitted RD.

Anyways, UCLA would definitely be easier for you to get into seeing that you're in-state. Although, being from CA will help your chances at Tufts as well.

Yeah, me being instate for CA is probably the reason why flopsy and uclari told me LA was a match (prolly my internship as well) but also my school (arcadia high) is a huge feeder to LA and Cal sending like 60 or more to each one (schools ranked like 190 in nation). Im jsut suprised Tufts got this difficult to be admitted too

26.6% acceptance rate makes it harder to get into than Cornell and statistically similar (though actually slightly harder - though negligibly so) than Northwestern, Johns Hopkins.

Here's my opinion. I think you're in. Your SAT is right in there with the average of those accepted, and your GPA is a tiny bit low, but for goodness sake you took AP Eng, AP Calc, and AP Physics as a Junior. That's got to count for something. Especially if your school is highly ranked.

Here is a summary from the ED results thread. The SATs for accepted students range from 1970-2240. GPAs 3.6-3.9. If you're in that range, assuming you took rigorous classes and have good ECs, you have a shot.

ACCEPTED

2170 3.75
2200
2090
2240
2240 3.6
2150
...... 3.9
2210 A
1970 3.9

DEFERRED

2140 4.0 (How the heck did that happen???)

REJECTED

1980 3.9

26.6% acceptance rate makes it harder to get into than Cornell"

In all fairness to Cornell, that’s misleading. The 27% admission rate for Cornell University is the average of all seven Colleges. To be accurate, it’s necessary to compare the admission rate of the College of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences from both Universities. When Cornell’s admission percentage is recalculated including only the two aforementioned Colleges, it’s much more difficult to be admitted than indicated by the published inclusive number.

One more thing. I'll bet you end up going to a UC, though. My cousin goes to a high school that's 80% asian, and all his asian friends are talking him out of USC, says the UCs are better, etc etc. What's up with that?

Also, Clutchballer, I would disagree that UCLA is easier to get into. No way. Especially for an asian guy.

Most state schools, including UCLA and UC Berkeley, would accept chimps if they were in-state.

I Dunno hahaha. Im just happy if i get into tufts, michigan, or LA : ). I applied to Cornell but only since they sent me an applicatoin, not expecting much only a bitterness for wasting 60 bucks haha

Data please.....

hey... im from arcadia high too

im actually surprised that someone else from this school is interested in tufts, considering how last year only one person applied. for some reason tufts isnt too well known here.

anyways, back to your original question, i would say your chances are as good as anyone elses. the only thing that might hold you back is your unweighted gpa. i have no idea if tufts only takes into consideration your weighted gpa or if they look at both weighted and unweighted. but it seems like your extracurriculars and recs will help balance it out.

Common knowledge?

i dunno LOL. A few days ago i just did that 89 dolalr thing to have Dave Berry give me my chances. Some ppl are tellin gme LA is match, others, a super reach, some are saying tufts is a match, others a long shot. Its come to the point where Ive realized CC posts in "what are my chances" isnt about chances, but giving mental support to a person who is on the brink of breaking down because of uncertainty of where they will get in.

Ivy Leagues don't say that it's easier for African Americans to get in than Caucasians. But would you argue that fact as well?
