Tufts Class of 2020 RD Applicants

ED2 admit here… Just want to wish every one luck with decisions. Everything will surely work out in the end. Go 'bos!

Does anyone know when Tufts will release decision this year? I know Ivy day is March 31–does Tufts generally release before or after then?

@allthingstesla the website just says “by April 1st”

I feel like it will be march 28th ish

I know there is a bunch of these (and this is obviously subjective) but I was wondering how negatively my GPA will impact me at tufts. I feel like everything else is great (test scores, ECs, essays, and especially my interveiw) but my GPA isn’t where I think it should be. Does anyone know the (weighted) range I should be in or how tufts weights GPA? I can’t find it anywhere. The only thing I have to go off of is my schools naviance data which isn’t that great becuase only 2 or 3 people have been accepted in past years. Thanks!

@blueamica First, I know this is going to be hard, but stop worrying about your GPA. You did all you could to stand out to Tufts, and that’s all you can do. What’s done is done. Hopefully, when they’re reviewing your application they’ll see you as someone who should go to their school, because you’ve shown that you’re better than your GPA. Second, I checked Tufts’s Common Data Set to see if they have the average GPAs of students on there, and they don’t (sorry). But if you want to look at other stats, here is the doc:

Best of luck when decisions come out!

@blueamica Tufts is one of the few school that really, really cares about essays. I wish I could show you my Naviance distribution to prove my point. People with all sorts of GPA’s and test scores have gotten in from my school (only 1-2 recruits, no legacies), but the people from the lower end either applied ED or put a ton (a TON) of time into their essays. Correct me if I’m wrong, but they take the idea of a holistic review process quite seriously. Just FYI.

At this point, there isn’t really anything you can do about it. Just sit back and enjoy the next few weeks before you have to make a decision (the irony of my writing that lol…I guess easier said than done) Good luck!

@ellesea Thank you for the info, I looked it over and it was quite comprehensive. Also, I really appreciate the kind words… Hopefully everything will work out!!

@sodapop027 I really hope you’re right about the essay… I loved mine so I guess if I don’t get in maybe it wasn’t a right fit! And it is easier said than done to relax, but I still really value your advice  good luck to you too!!

@blueamica ED admit here. I think Tufts does a great job in finding those who FIT into the school they do this mainly through the essay. Although I had good enough stats for Tufts, I feel my essays really made me stand out to adcoms. I also happen to have a friend who barely had 1900 in his SAT and also had average/mediocre SAT 2s and GPA but his essays were terrific, probably the best ones I’ve read throughout this application season. Hope your essays were great because you seem really enthusiastic about Tufts.Good Luck with your decision.

PS- My friend with the terrible GPA also got in ED.

@Livingteen1209 honestly it is comforting knowing that they place weight on the essays…I feel like I was really able to get my personality across. I also wonder about the interview though…I connected SO well with my interviewer (exactly what I was hoping for in a Tufts alum!!) do you think this carries some weight as well?

@blueamica I didn’t have an interview. I felt ED was more than enough to signify my interest at Tufts. However, I think requesting an interview indicates a reasonable level of interest since you’re applying RD. And it seems you had a great one. Overall, I think it should add some positives to your application and your personality as a whole. On Tufts’ CDS Interview are “considered.” Having a good interview can (slightly) boost you app.

@Livingteen1209 I agree, ED is probably about as much interest as you can show! Anyway, congratulations on your acceptance and thank you for your help!

When should we expect to hear back?

^^

Anybody hear of when decisions will be out?

Haven’t heard any updates.

Deferred ED 2 applicant here. They never tell you before decisions are released, they just release them suddenly. Last year it was March 30, so it will probably be around then this year as well.

Any predictions based on previous trends (days of the week, dates etc.) ?

I checked my portal today and saw that it asked if I was interested in the 1+4 bridges program? I don’t remember if it asked me before. Does it possibly showing up mean that they’re interested in me but might not have room for me this year?
