Tufts Honor Society?

Hi everybody, my incoming freshman son just mentioned that he had an invitation to apply for the Tufts Honor Society. Can anyone tell me what this is? Is everyone invited? Is there extra work? Does it confer any advantages at all? He didn’t show it to me (I am surprised he even mentioned it) so I am just curious. I am pretty sure he feels his hands are full enough and thinks it’s mailed to all incoming freshman.

I’m not familiar with any organization or club at Tufts known as the “Tufts Honor Society” - it must be called something different?

I asked about it again and my son thinks it is spam.

It may well be. The only honors type org at tufts is phi beta kappa, to my knowledge, and perhaps the engineering honors org and sigma Xi for undergrad science majors. But only juniors and seniors at tufts will hear from those organizations.

The equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa for the engineering school is Tau Beta Pi, which students are typically invited to based on GPA in their junior or senior years.

The Tisch College also created the “Honos Civicus Society” a few years back but I don’t think it’s primarily for graduating students (http://activecitizen.tufts.edu/honoscivicus/)
