I'm having trouble deciding between the two...here are the pros and cons that don't cancel each other out:

Tufts cons:
-colder
-less prestigious
-location is less interesting than Georgetown (Medford, that is)

Georgetown cons:
-Catholic

-D.C. isn't as cool/interesting as Boston, overall

perspective (I could be wrong, please tell me if you think I am [I WANT to be told if I'm right or wrong in my assumptions]):

Georgetown's kids seem nicer, I get the impression that Tufts kids are kind of rude (as a general populus).
Georgetown's kids seem preppier whereas Tufts kids are more into indie/artsy kind of stuff, and I prefer the latter.
Tufts isn't big on parties, and has a pretty quiet social scene.
Tufts/Boston has a better music scene
Tufts is really quiet on weekends and not a whole lot is going on; not many people wandering around campus. (this is bad)
Georgetown has something of a goody-goody atmosphere to it, and isn't very relaxed.
Tufts kids are also rather uptight, but not very goody-goody.
Tufts doesn't have too much school spirit or rah-rah let's go watch football in the freezing rain (this is a good thing)
Tufts is a hook-up school, not many people date. (bad)
Georgetown just isn't very sexually inclined at all. (worse)
Tufts kids aren't sure if they are happy there or not.

I think some of these assumptions are wrong. As far as "nice" levels go, I personally feel that Tufts takes it, as both schools are fairly "elitist", but G-Town is clearly more stuffy. Tufts may not be BIG on parties, but from what I can tell, they certainly are there, and honestly, who cares, when Boston is 20min away? As far as things not going on on the weekends, it seems as though there are, and again, Boston! I didn't notice that people were uptight at Tufts, G-Town usually has a more "I'm better than you" attitude. School spirit wise, it's there, but like you said, nothing insane. Tufts may be a hook up school, but let's get something straight, ALL COLLEGES ARE. As far as the happiness thing goes, I don't know what you're talking about, but everyone I met there, via online or in person seems to truly enjoy being there. Good luck!

Thanks, but...how do you know? you don't go there...yet :P I don't think Georgetown is 'clearly' more stuffy at all, because when I was there for GAAP, everyone was much friendlier than Tufts kids were...and even when I was there BEFORE GAAP everyone was really nice. Tufts kids, to me, seemed awfully dismissive.

Also, if Tufts is known as a hook-up school among colleges, that's saying something-it implies that there's far less of a dating atmosphere on campus. It's all about atmosphere...

My uncle and grandfather went to G-Town, I've met quite a few people from there, I know the "attitude" the school has. As for Tufts, I speak with 20+ current students fairly regularly and have been there multiple times, so I have some decent insight into what people are like at both schools. As far as music scene, why are you even asking, DC v. Boston... :|

Had a friend in undergrad whose sister went to Georgetown. My friend said that she felt as if she had a much better experience; she said that she met a lot of quality people at Tufts, while her sister didn't have the same level of friendships (despite being a very warm, social person). Experience-wise, Tufts trumped for them.

I must say that I love all of the Tufts alums that I meet - all warm, caring, and smart people. There's a personality type that they manage to get - somehow, everyone is friendly and warm. Great place to spend four years of your life, and wonderful people to meet afterwards.

Now, about hooking up... yes, to some extent, all colleges have a hook-up scene. At Tufts, if you hook up a few times in a row, you're dating. As someone I know once said about that type of dating... "Take me out for dinner. I eat!" If dating is important - courting, caring about another person - do not, I repeat, do NOT go to school north of the Mason-Dixon line. You'll find a lot more dating and a lot less hooking up in the South and Midwest.

AGHHHHHHHHHH I have like, 5 hours to decide. making it arbitrarily may 1 was a BAD idea because now we don't have the weekend to decide, oh god AHAAAASDFSFH

Invite your friends over. Get out a nice, shiny quarter. Have your friends tell you which one is heads, which one is tails.

If you're upset with the result of the flip, go to the other school. If you're okay with it, go to that one.

A psych study came out recently that showed that people who make decisions with a lot of factors (like this one) tend to be happier with the result when it's not well-thought-out. Essentially, if you go with your subconscious, gut instict, you'll be happier.

Good luck. I think you would enjoy Tufts and Boston more... but I'm biased. :)

These were my two favorite schools that I applied to. I got waitlisted at Georgetown, so obviously that made my decision easier. But honestly, I really do love Tufts better. Both are great schools, but the atmosphere at Tufts is so much more relaxed; you don't feel like you constantly have to compete with others. I think I'm going to have a much more healthy four years at Tufts than I would've at Georgetown.

I went with georgetown because I panicked. it had to be sent out TODAY so I was like 'OH NOES' and just dropped it in the box....now I feel like I made a huge mistake....not too late to change it

This is a really funny story! It reminds me of that desperate housewives episode where everything is going wrong for this one woman and she just chuckles to herself in the middle of her destruction and says "sometimes you just gotta laugh!"

Georgetown: >6,000
Tufts: about 5,000
Georgetown: blocky brick buildings - imposing campus
Tufts: prettier campus (in my humble opinion)
Georgetown: I had two ditsy, newbie tour guides
Tufts: I had this girl who was literally interested in everything I am
Georgetown: Hoya - okay, I took the tour and heard the explanation, it still doesn't make sense
Tufts: Jumbo rocks
I stayed overnight at Tufts and all of the students I met were really nice and welcoming. Not stuffy at all.
I guess you can tell which school I applied to.......
