Which one would be better for engineering? Vanderbilt is apparently ranked somewhat higher. But should that mean anything while deciding? I feel the small size of the engineering school at Tufts and the prominence of IR are what overshadow engineering at Tufts despite the fact that it is a great school. Any opinions on this are welcome.

bump bump bump bump

do u want to study engineering or IR?

This seems to be a recurrent query re: Tufts engineering. Why not do a posting, aimed at Tufts engineers, asking what their experience was at Tufts and what they are doing post-graduation.

As far as the intellectual/academic life of the two schools, Tufts has far more gravitas and a more “scholarly” student body, based on a large population of students I know who have gone and/or go there. My friend’s son (who didn’t get into Tufts) just chose between Vanderbilt and Emory. He’s going to Emory, citing that he felt that in attending some lectures at both schools, the questions the Tufts students asked in lecture were far and away more thoughtful and profound and copious than those asked at Vanderbilt–he also cited that few kids asked questions at Vanderbilt. He also said that, clearly, the Greek scene was “major” at Vanderbilt, and he couldn’t suffer all the khaki. He said that Vanderbilt felt very “Southern” and that Emory felt more cosmopolitan.

@000ace000: I am doing engineering and don’t care about IR.

@SWHarborfan: Where, in this forum, would I be able to make such a posting?

Sherlock, here on the College Confidential forum; you have to click on the start new thread link, I believe. If you are having trouble, maybe contact a moderator.

And you want to do it on the Tufts College Confidential forum<–that is your best bet in reaching Tufts engineers/engineering majors.

Okay, I figured it out–google college confidential tufts; upon the page appearing, click on “new thread”, what you must have done for your Vanderbilt/Tufts posting.

^Thanks…
