So for the Tufts supplement, the Common App website says that the essays should be 200 words. Is that a minimum or a maximum? Also, it give a 2000 character limit. My essay is longer than 200 words (don't worry its not longer than 300), but less than 2000 characters. Any ideas?

get it as close to 200 as possible. mine was like 208 or something, im sure thats fine. cut out a few sentences but if you cant do that, then i guess just send it as is.

I honestly think you'll be fine. A fairly average 200 word essay uses about 1200 to 1400 characters, and that includes spaces. So that allows you to go over a little bit. Fifty words is about a sentence or two, but I honestly think if what you're writing is intelligently concise, I can't imagine there would be penalty OR someone sitting there counting your words. And if you're using word, you can also use tools and word count (which also has a character count w and w/o spaces)

The common application did not let me submit anything more than what was allowed - character wise.
