I got in both USC and Tufts for mechanical engineering major. I'm from California, so I don't really know about Tufts. Can some one compare these two schools for me?

Are you able to visit Tufts and perhaps have an overnight there with a student who graduated from your hs who could show you around and give you a sense of student life?

So I got into both USC Tufts, and I frankly have no idea which one to pick. Both schools have great academics but there are certain circumstances that make this really complicated.

Tufts:
- I have free tuition
- I want to do Poli Sci+IR
- I have a congressional internship I could easily continue, and I have been offered a position in DC for summers.
- I ultimately want to be in national politics
- Tufts has the Fletcher School, and as a senior, I can take classes there if I want. This also makes it easier to get the MA in Law and Diplomacy (I was planning on getting this then heading for law school).
- I definitely know I will go to law school.

USC:
- I LOVE the school unity and spirit.
- The alumni are extremely passionate.
- Campus life seems so much more lively.
- USC has the better business and econ.
- My entire family is from CA, and I really want to be in Cali. I am quite sick of the east coast.

That pretty much sums up the issues. Also, keep in mind that I don’t have any FA from USC and that I’ve lived in the Boston area my entire life.

Tough decision. Two statements stood out for me.

Are your parents willing to fund law school no matter which school you choose, or will law school be on your own nickle? If Tufts would allow you to finish law school debt-free, that’s a huge advantage.

It would be a combination of both. My parents would give what they could, but I would most likely have to get student loans.
Yea, Tufts would pretty much allow me to finish law school debt free.

Tufts seems to be the obvious choice here. I’ll probably be attending next yr.
You can’t beat their program for IR, and their Poli.sci program is great too. + although you may not like the east coast, boston is one of the best places to go to college.
See you there! =)

I’m in fact Tricot’s Mom.
I went to SC for undergrad and Tufts for grad school.
Go to Tufts and never look back. Fabulous school. Top stuff, and totally different from what you know, so go.

I also got into UC San Diego.
I went out for their admit day program, and I really liked it.
I thought the Poli Sci and IR programs were almost as good as Tufts, and I loved the large campus feel.
However, I am concerned about the budget cuts, as the graduation rate in four years is 58%. While I don’t think I need to worry about that because I am very direct and have no problem working a large system or going straight to a professor and talking to them, I do worry about not getting the classes I need to graduate in 4 years.
What are people’s opinions on Tufts Vs. UCSD?
