I’m considering both schools as my first choice, but I can’t choose between the two.
I want a place that is friendly, collaborative, intimate, easy to get to (im flying from california). I want to major in Psychology/sociology with a minor in marketing or media.
I am a gay female who’s not big on greek/sorority life, and I want a college city that I can have fun in off campus or that has a good/big nearby city. I enjoy sports/team spirit (I know they’re both D3) and am more of an “artsy liberal kid”. Obviously good food and housing are pluses.
I have visited both schools and love both for different reasons, but I cannot say which I’d rather attend.
Which, based on my preferences, seems more of better fit for me?
You scream Tufts.
I, too, am gay and am from California, and I ended up having to choose between these schools.
I chose Tufts over WashU because I found the Greek life to be way too prevalent there (40% participation), because of the somewhat straight-edged students, because of the pre-professional vibe I got there, and just because of the fact that it was in Missouri. When I asked my tour guide about the LGBT community, he said, “oh, yeah, I know a gay guy.”
I chose Tufts because of the artsy, different student body, the fact that it is near Boston, the school’s collaborative characteristics, the liberal people here, the openness of the student body, the LGBT community (estimates are 1 out of every 3-4 Tufts students are LGBT), and much more. I’m also involved with sports here, and the spirit of the school is great!
