"Tuition Award"?

So I just got my FA package (I was accepted EA) and I received a Tuition Award of about $10,000 for two semesters. What exactly does this mean? Is this just a nonrenewable scholarship that I can only use my first year?

Just confused, any help would be appreciated.

I am also interested since I got the same thing, in the same letter.
I was also happy to see that I got a $8k scholarship.

Fordham's still expensive, though it is looking a bit more manageable.

I too am interested in this info.

I am also wondering if Fordham ever increases their merit aid later in the process. My D has gotten hefty scholarships from a few other colleges. Is it possible to go back to the FA folks and "negotiate" a little later on, when perhaps they learn that some of the money they had offered won't be used?

Anyone ever had success with this?

I have the same question. I recieved the Loyola Scholarship, but I've heard they aren't giving out Presidential Scholarships until after RD. I'm confused...

I am confused about what the tuition award is, as well. I called the financial aid office to ask about it, and my experience was very frustrating. When I asked the man specifically if the Fordham Tuition Award is renewable for four years or if it is a one time scholarship, he told me there was no such thing as the Fordham Tuition Award. He listed off all the other scholarships, and I kept telling him that this one, in fact, is called the "Fordham Tuition Award". I got nowhere, and he kept telling me to tell him the name of a real scholarship before I decided to just thank him and hang up. It was quite frustrating, considering the award IS listed on the website and in the financial aid letters as the Fordham Tuition Award. Oh well, just a misunderstanding, I guess.

whoo, sorry for that little rant. Anyway, I emailed the admissions office to find out about this, so when I hear back from them, I'll let you all know what I find out.

^Great, thanks! This is very confusing...:(

This is the response I received regarding the Tuition Award:

"Scholarships are generally renewable provided the student is successful academically."

Sorry, I didn't receive other information about it! Hopefully this is true for the Fordham Tuition Award, though!

My daughter had an award, and even though her grades were excellent, it was not renewed, sad to say. We too thought it was for all for years, but it was not.

Thanks for that, Tinkerbellsmom. When weighing options, that is definitely something to consider. My D got a scholarship 3X the size from another great school, so she will have to consider carefully!

yes, thank you so much for telling us that! I had originally assumed that it was a one-time award since the description did not mention that it was renewable for four years, but after emailing Fordham, I had hoped that it really was a four-year reward. I'm glad you let all of us know, tinkerbellsmom! thanks!

Okay--I emailed Fordham and from the response they gave me, I feel like the tuition award, while not merit-based, is still renewable as long as financial circumstances don't change significantly. I'll copy and paste the response--see what you make from it.

"The tuition award is not a merit scholarship, but as with the rest of the
package, as long as the family financial situation doesn't change
drastically, that amount and the scholarship and the rest of the aid
package would remain the same."

My dad also called and they essentially told him that it should be renewed every year but it's need-based rather than merit based...however, I think your GPA can't dip too low either.

how'd you guys already get your fa package? when did you turn fafsa and css?

Millerl1te, did you apply EA or RD--if you applied RD, your FA package probably won't come until later.
