Tuition Exchange for Fall 2022 Freshman applicants (Class of 2026)

Yes, for sure – thanks! I’m kind of feeling like I just have to accept the waiting game, but any insight is appreciated. Basic stats are 4.0UW, HS does not weight so something like a 4.4-4.6 weighted, depending on how it’s calculated. Mostly honors classes and a few college (school does not offer APs). Average ECs, nothing exceptional. Test optional, unfortunately, because I think it would have helped him but we are in CA and he gave up after a number of test dates were canceled. Here’s his list:

Loyola Chicago - accepted with merit, waiting on TE/FACHEX
Saint Louis U - accepted with merit, waiting on TE/FACHEX
Duquesne - accepted with merit, denied TE
Pitt - accepted, no merit, no TEP
Boston College - waiting, not holding our breath
Boston U
Syracuse
George Washington
American
Fordham
Case Western - applied EA and deferred to regular admission

I’m a TE/CIC person, so I’m not in the know on FACHEX:), and these are just my stream consciousness thoughts.

Loyola Chicago - Yes
Saint Louis U - yes
Duquesne - understand, their published rate is <10%
Pitt - understand, super popular
Boston College - is this FACHEX?
Boston U - talked to rep a couple of years ago and said they give a flat 10 so given their incoming class numbers, it is very hard to get imo.
Syracuse - if admitted, should auto get. Set rate though.
George Washington - seems a tough get based on my 2019 experience. S19 did not get it and was accepted with a bit of merit.
Fordham - no close experience but Fordham seems to be getting very popular. I think < 10%
Case Western - I think pretty competitive

FACHEX is the Jesuit college tuition remission and their acceptance rates don’t always match the TE acceptance rates.

My friends child was offered FACHEX at SLU last year with much lower stats. However, their sibling had similar stats to your son and is currently attending SLU on FACHEX and loves it.

This is good to hear, thanks. It seems like SLU is a good bet for FACHEX and on paper it looks like it would be a good fit for my son. I hesitate to get his hopes up before we know for sure, though. I guess I’m feeling responsible for “selling” him on all these schools as possibilities and now realizing how much of a long shot most of them are! Like BC, which yes is only FACHEX I now realize (many of them offer both) it’s his top choice but they only offer 2-3 awards a year so fat chance there and no way can we afford it without.

Any insight into DePaul TE?

Hello all, I am curious if anyone has any insight on how University of Delaware awards TE?

Sorry, I don’t have any insight into either DePaul or Delaware, but I do think that Delaware is a popular TE choice. My daughter was bugging us last night wanting to know when we can begin reaching out to inquire about the status.

In case anyone is wondering, I reached out to Delaware about TE. They typically have 18 awards and roughly 250 applicants.

RIT sent out an email this week basically saying “we know you’re excited, but calm down already. We promise to let you know no later than mid March. Please don’t call us - we don’t have an answer yet.”
And that was just admissions!

Champlain is my top choice. If only I were the one going!
I love the freshman housing and was impressed by their practical adulting seminars being both required and something they value enough to make it into the info session.

When they say something like this, is 250 the total number of people who listed the school in their tuition exchange list?
Or is it the number of ACCEPTED applicants competing for the award?
Either way 250 is a big number, but one is a lot more daunting than the other!

Also, if they make those 18 offers, but the students go somewhere else, do those usually get offered to someone else?
It sounds like WNE must do that since the note we got from them asked us to notify us as soon as we’re able if we aren’t going to use it so they can offer it to someone else - but sounds like that isn’t done across the board. Is one way of handling it more common than the other?

They offer 18 and also put 18 on the waitlist.

I’m thinking I will contact each of the schools that DD has agreed to revisit right afterward. Maybe she’ll contact the AO and I’ll contact the TE liaison. For us, that’s as early as next week (Emmanuel College).

Decisions are slowly rolling out…

My son recieved an email yesterday from Butler that they were unable to offer him a TE award, as the program was extremely competitive this year and they could only select a few top students from a large number of applicants.

Our export school is BU. Yes, it’s still 10 slots. Very competitive to get as an import and even to get into the TE program as an export.

I bet, given that there needs to be a balance and there are so many employees!

Really wish our export school had my sons major.

It’s based on seniority. My husband has been working for BU for 30+ years AND we still weren’t positive we’d get it! Plus BU doesn’t tell you until December of the student’s senior year so it makes planning even that more complicated…

I hear you… My daughter could have attended our export school BU tuition-free but she doesn’t like cities so really was never opened to it. Sigh!! But we did get the TE where she wanted to go so am grateful for that.
