My daughter received Tulane's "expedited application" in the mail yesterday. It was obviously sent before Katrina. Today she received this email from the admissions office - sounds like they are moving ahead quickly with their admissions program, trying to keep applications up for next year. I think that shows that the administration is very, very positive that Tulane WILL recover from this and be back in business as quickly as possible.

Tulane University sustained some damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina. While the damage is serious, all Tulane University students, faculty and staff are safe - a direct result of the quality of the Tulane emergency planning process that has been in place for several years.

While it will take several months for Tulane to make all necessary repairs and resume operations, we will restart admission outreach activities on Tuesday, September 6 in all areas except those directly affected by Hurricane Katrina. Unless you have received notice to the contrary, all events scheduled for your area will take place as scheduled.

All of us are concerned about conditions in New Orleans as our friends and neighbors struggle with the aftermath of this devastating storm. While many questions remain unanswered and the city faces a long road to recovery, we are absolutely certain of one answer - Tulane will continue to be one of the best institutions in America.

Thank you for your patience during this trying time. We will be sending more information to you as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Richard Whiteside, Ph.D.
Vice President for Enrollment Management
