If you dont mind me asking, where did your daughter eventually choose and why? DD is having to choose between some of the same schools?
Sheâs currently deciding among Harvey Mudd, Williams, and Rice. Sheâll be visiting them all within the next few weeks, sitting in some classes, and looking more closely at the various research labs and opportunities.
Theyâre all great schools, so I think that it will come down to where she connects most with the community and can see herself thriving.
I sent my LOCI, and they responded to me. Waiting for the bestâ:pray:t2:
What did they say ?!
That they are excited to hear about me and my love for Tulane! and that they will add my LOCI to my profile.
Tulane admissions is defintely a crapshoot. My kid was deferred EA. Really high test scores, rigorous IB classes, and some really strong community involvment. She got in to Georgetown, Vanderbilt, UNC (merit), UGA Honors (merit) and ended up getting the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA. She was very, very interested in Tulane, we visited in person and she spent a lot of time on her essays. It all turned out great in the end as UVA will be a great fit, but it definitely was a headscratcher.
Yay thatâs great!!! Iâm going to send mine in right now
My son got in ED three years ago with 12k/yr merit. We were surprised they give merit to ED.
The formula for Tulane (assuming stats that fit) is ED + lots and lots of Tulane love + Nola love + community service. EA is better than RD but still iffy. Tulane is all about yield. Theyâd rather admit a âlesserâ ED than a rock star RD because that RD might not accept and that impacts their yield. And they seem less inclined towards someone with Ivy-level stats applying RD because they suspect theyâre using Tulane as a backup plan. They donât like to be anyoneâs backup plan.
My son is at Tulane and honestly I donât understand the hype at all. Itâs a fine school but the schools that some students on this thread got into are superior IMO.
good luck!!
who did you send your LOCI to?
my counselor and admissions!
thank you!!
youâre welcomee
Great info, thanks. Mine is already committed to Ohio State and is thrilled! Best to you!
any news?
Iâm a little late to the thread, but when you tour Tulane, they tell you to only apply EA or ED. Because it is a smaller school, it is probably close to impossible to figure out who really wants to attend if you apply RD. They got around 42,000 applications - which is too many. My daughterâs top choices were Tulane, UT and USC. She did not get into USC and is going to Tulane over UT. But she did everything to let Tulane know she wanted to go there (interview, tour, emails, etc.). It helps to show a lot of interest at Tulane, and honestly, it helps your kid figure out if they belong there because it is a very unusual school and town.

Looking for a bit of advice. My s23 was just deferred from ED. He is now out in RD pool and will hear before April 1. Tulane is his top choice still and really wants to go. What can we do to help his chances? I mean he WILL accept a spot if they accept him so he can protect their yield if thatâs what they are so concerned with.
