*Tulane Applicants (and parents) for Class of 2017*

There are some weird grading systems out there. I have seen 6.0 systems, but this is the first I have seen above that.

is it true that Tulane will defer/deny students who they believe are using Tulane as a “safety”?

accepted today!!
31 ACT, 1950 SAT
so excited, tulane is top 2 for me!
Do you know if merit scholarship $$ is listed on our online gibson account or is that included in the mail?

struglinchemist2 - Obviously I enjoy the name!

Yes, last year many students well above Tulane’s average stats, i.e. Ivy League type of qualifications, got waitlisted which in essence was a kind of denial since Tulane was overenrolled and therefore no one got in off the wait list. As I mentioned somewhere recently, in general these students did not do the Why Tulane essay, did not visit campus or attend a local Tulane event, and in essence did nothing to show that they had really scoped out Tulane. If a student with the same stats and background had done the Why Tulane statement, and at least communicated with their admissions person (not everyone can visit or show up at an event since it might not be very “local” for them) then they would undoubtedly get accepted. Make sense?

lwalsh618 - Congrats! As far as I know, at this point the scholarship will not show up in your Gibson account. You will have to wait for the letter. What was your UW GPA, how many AP courses, what kind of EC’s? If you don’t mind sharing.

i don’t know my unweighted GPA, weighted i have a 4.0 on a 5 scale. 2 courses last year (chem and US) and this year 2 (bio and stat). i got a 4 on APUSH and 3 on APChem last year. EC’s…over 550 hours cumulative, 300 from a place i’ve volunteered at since i was 12.

I got the 27k a year scholarship, which came as a complete shocker because I wasn’t even looking at Tulane previous to this. I also got into the Honors college and am sending in the deans and paul tulane scholarship forms too.

Congratulations to everyone! Tulane has been my first choice since freshman year and I’ve been lurking on these boards forever… I still cant believe I got in with 22k per year. Feels great to say it.
Applied 10/15, but my guidance counsler took awhile to send my things in. So, my application wasn’t marked complete until 11/19. I heard back 11/21, and got the letter today (11/28).
I’m so excited!!! Good luck to everyone who’s still waiting

I’m in
Did y’all get recognition of merit aid on gibson or in a letter?
Also, after you were notified on Gibson how soon did you receive your letter?

anthrogirl - 3-10 days after it comes up on Gibson you should get the letter. Only the letter will tell you about your merit award (if any) and Honors Program (if invited).

Thanks fallenchemist! Appreciate your answer and all the answers you provide on all Tulane forums!

My uncle is one the heads of admissions at Tulane and recently told me that everyone from now on will either be wait listed or rejected.

tulane4life - if that’s true, I have no words at how unprofessional it is that he told you and you’re posting this here. Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.

I’m going to sleep on this but am contemplating writing my son’s admissions counselor in the morning to ask about this. I have such a range of emotions right now because - given that my husband and both are Tulane alums - we really hoped our son would be accepted. I’m feeling pretty disgusted with Tulane right now and am hoping this is not true but don’t have a reason to not believe what tulane4life says.

In another thread, someone just got in today. So admissions appear to still be coming…

Well, I am not sure who his uncle is because the head of admissions is a woman. Plus, as gowill says, Cheer007 got accepted today. I am smelling a ■■■■■.

Well, I hope so although I do see several men when I look at the admissions page, including Earl Retif who’s a VP of enrollment management. He was there when I was there! As I say, I’m going to sleep on it before deciding a next step and hope that the poster above is a ■■■■■. I truly hope my son will be accepted :frowning: I’m feeling a little sad right now.

BTMell, don’t be sad! I also think tulane4life is a ■■■■■. I really do not believe that they have notified all of the accepted applicants. As a parent of a senior, I do know how you feel because I am also going crazy waiting on decisions from some of the schools to which my daughter has applied. I also don’t think Earl Retif or anyone else in admissions at such a prestigious university would be so unprofessional. Cheer up! I will tell you what I keep telling myself and my daughter. “People end up where they are supposed to be.”

I just checked my daughter’s status and it now shows pending review.
