Hi everyone, this is my first post. My son applied using the personal application and now the status on Gibson has changed with a message that "you will have a decision by April 1st." I thought Tulane was known for fast turn-around on apps? Is he going to get any financial aid consideration at this late date?

What are his stats?

He has 3.92 gpa (unweighted), not terribly good SAT scores (1980 superscore), 10 AP courses and many extracurriculars, but no leadership positions. He has several writing awards, and wants to major in math. Is being Hispanic a hook for Tulane?

Tulane is a bit underrepresented in Hispanic heritage students, so I suppose it might help. But with a 3.92 UW and 1980 (which is absolutely good, no reason to feel otherwise), along with 10 AP’s, I would sure think he would have no problem getting accepted and some merit money, possibly. If he was a late applicant, it might just be they are assessing the big picture in terms of students that accept offers of admission. As was discussed on another thread, there is a relatively small range regarding the number of matriculating students that is good for Tulane, probably between 1500-1600, maybe a few more. If they are getting indications that more students are going to accept their offer of admission than usual, they will hold off with those students they have not made offers to yet.

Of course that is just hypothetical, you might get an answer tomorrow as well. The only thing that seems sure is that based on the stats you presented, your S certainly qualifies for Tulane.

Best of luck to you both.

Thank you fallenchemist! I am more nervous about this decision than my son. Good luck to everyone.

I’d just like to say my status changed too. I don’t know what it means, but in either case, I have a 3.6 UW GPA, 5 AP courses, decent ECs, and a 30 ACT.

We discovered yesterday that my son’s status changed to Accepted! His GPA was just under 3.6 UW when he applied. He does have good SAT’s and EC’s.

Congrats PaperChase. You should get the written confirmation in about a week.
