Tulane - Aron Hall

Anyone have experience with this dorm? Is it tough to get a single room within one of the apartments?

My son is getting room & board from the university, but I understand these units have kitchens. How does that work?

No, it’s not hard to get a single. They’re mostly all singles. And if you have a good lottery you’re bound to get one on the first round. However I personally don’t think it’s much better than a shared room. And it’s kind of a rip off when you think about how much you pay for a place you need to share with three-four people. If you think negotiating stuff with one person is hard enough, try three other people. You have a common area and a kitchen and share a bathroom with one or two other people, depending.

There’s some problems with Aron. The first being, I guess, if you’re a cooker, they fire alarms are super sensitive. You can’t make a steak or fried rice without it going off. You have to prop open the door and all the windows.

There’s also close to no natural sunlight in the rooms. The RAs compare Aron to a “prison block” for a reason.

So I guess that’s the low down. Tulane markets it as “apartment living” but it’s not, really. I’m about to go to graduate school and I can’t imagine sharing an apartment twice this size with three other people.

EggbertSouse: you didn’t indicate what year your S will be. If he is a freshman, Aron apartments will not be one of his choices.

will be in his 3rd year
