Tulane Class of '17 Admitted Students

now lets be honest…out of us admitted students and received their letters…who still occasionally goes back onto Gibson by habit to check your status!!!

thought i would ask since i just did it!

Okay, yes, I do that too!

Good. I’m glad that I’m not the only neurotic person here. It’s like we don’t believe we actually got in so we need to keep checking.

haha sometimes I go back just to look at my acceptance…I guess you could say I’m a little obsessed with Tulane.

I don’t know why… it’s not like I expect it to change. It just became routine to check Gibson, along with other things when I get home from school.

I was ACCEPTED!!

That was a week ago, right? I guess the excitement hasn’t worn off yet, lol.

Sn0wflake,

Congrats on your son’s acceptance to Tulane! I’ve been lurking around here for awhile and have a DD who I would love to see at Tulane but who wants to go to UGA, my alma mater. I also teach and have done a lot of researching for my students to be a sort of college counselor for them since we are a large public school and I have more contact with them than the counselors do. Anyhow, just remember that deferred at UGA doesn’t mean denied, and my suspicion is that his few AP courses have moved him to the RD group. UGA takes rigor of schedule into account as above SAT scores, and most likely, if he’s out of state and they’re not familiar with the school, they’ll want to examine everything more closely in RD, which is where his strong EC’s will come into play. If you haven’t seen the UGA admissions blog, it’s here: [Advice about the UGA Admission Process](http://ugaadmissions.blogspot.com/). I’ve pored over it to understand what they’re looking for for both my DD and my students, and I feel good about his chances in RD based on what I"ve read there if he’s still interested.

Thanks so much, tfinco1. I hope you are right. At his high school the number of AP courses available are very limited and are only open to juniors and seniors. I think it would be pretty much impossible for a student at his high school to have more than 4 or 5 APs at most. His high school has sent only 1 student to UGA over the last 5 years while there are probably 10 or so kids from his high school at Tulane now. I would not be surprised if Tulane is more familiar with the high school than is UGA. Tulane also recruits in our area while UGA does not. DS was very impressed when he visited UGA although his first choice is Tulane. While I would like to see him get accepted at UGA, I think Tulane is a better fit. I think he would do better at a smaller school. He has also been accepted at another large state school that I have heard is very difficult to graduate from in 4 years and then, you pretty much had to figure out for yourself what you need for graduation - advising is supposedly very limited to nonxistent. I believe that UGA likely wouldn’t be as bad but my feeling is a smaller university might be less impersonal.

Thanks for your insight.

Ya and I was accepted more than two weeks ago and haven’t received an email yet. That’s why I was asking!

I was accepted the 1st of November and I only got my formal letter in the mail last week. A lot of my friends got their admission decision from Tulane today actually, about 4 of them. I haven’t gotten an e-mail yet either.

Many of you probably already know this, but just in case you don’t- there’s a group on Facebook for admitted students! It’s about 90 members as of now :)

I was accepted  I found out on Gibson, but I haven’t received anything in the mail!
I hope I get a lot of merit aid.
Good luck to everyone!

Congrats, colegebound. With your stats you should do OK. It will be interesting to see what you actually receive. Good luck!

letter arrived today, $25k merit, son is excited but is still hoping for ED decision.

quietdesperation - understood, but having this one in the bank, both figuratively and apparently literally is a nice thing.
