Tulane EA 2025 Decisions

My daughter was in this boat last year. High stats, 36 ACT, blah blah blah. This thought of Tulane deferring because of her stats did concern us.

But she showed interest with her why Tulane essay and other things. She got accepted EA.

^^^ Yes. The solution is not a secret or difficult. If you are an extremely high stat student worried about potential yield protection, all you need to do to overcome that is go out of your way to demonstrate as much interest as you can. Make sure the school knows how you feel about it.

Just saw a new form “Legislative Scholarship Program” for me to complete in Green Wave portal. That form sounds like designed for admitted students. Does it mean something?

Where is that on the portal? I don’t think I have it oh noooo

Pretty sure it is only for Louisiana residents if you look it up.

In “early action”, in the section of “FORMS”

Oh thank god I got so nervous! Im OOS(NJ) so that wouldn’t apply to me

(I realize I’ve contributed to the possibly freaking out other people)
BUT
Let’s try not to post anything else that might freak people out. In the end, we have no idea what that means, and it’s not worth having get all worked up when they potentially got in or deferred even. So lets just be positive and manifest acceptances for all of us!

Now the portal shows " If applicable, the option to switch to Early Decision II will return here after Early Action decisions are finalized and released."

So the community service fellowship says that in order to apply you must submit an EA or ED application and I submitted an EA. If I were to be deferred does that mean I am out of the consideration for this scholarship? Also, It was due Dec 5 so I’m gonna assume they won’t accept an EDII application when they say ED?

The blog post referenced above specifically says do not count on merit aid for ED2 as there is not much left typically at that point. So while it seems it is possible, it seems quite unlikely.

If one applies EA and then also for one of the full scholarships will the school assume we are relying heavily on merit aid and therefore increase the chance of deferment?

I’m pretty sure Tulane is need-blind so I don’t think your ability to pay determines if you get deferred? I could be wrong(I know merit scholarships are need-blind)

I don’t think it would increase the chance of deferment since it is a merit scholarship rather than financial aid. I feel like it might show Tulane that you’re serious about attending, especially if given the scholarship. But I a new to all of this so I am unsure.

I believe they’d have to have an admissions decision before they look at your scholarship application because that would be a waste of time for them. So EDII most likely will not count as they review before those come out

The merit scholarships are for the top top students. If you get deferred, that implies that you are not one of the top top. So it’s not even a consideration if you are deferred–you are out of the running for merit scholarships. But that is OK, most students at Tulane do not receive the big ones!

I am not so sure this is true. I’ve heard from the counselor at my school that Tulane defers many extremely high stats candidates because they don’t think they will get them. So if you are deferred today, you very likely are out of the running for a merit scholarship. But you absolutely could be a top student and still be deferred today.

A lot of it depends on the school you go to as well and their relationship with Tulane
my daughter goes to a school that sends a lot of students to Tulane and they regularly give lots of merit money

yes, but they aren’t going to waste the offer of a full, named merit scholarship on someone they don’t think will matriculate.

Did everyone get an interview? I know in the past they have been important, but limited this year.
