If you have already attended, you don’t need to continue to attend unless it’s a new topic you are interested in. They are trying to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to attend through availability.
Accessibility is a good thing, whether it be through ample online event options, the ability to apply for free, multiple admission options or merit scholarships. Tulane often gets criticized for its attempts to make itself accessible for application and admission. In most other aspects of life, this would be considered a positive.
Is there anywhere to check that midyear grades are received on Tulane portal? I can see they were downloaded from Common App but don’t see them on Tulane Checklist.
Thanks
I was wondering the same thing. I looked on Tulane’s webite yesterday and I was guessing with all the other regular decision answers/offers, which isn’t until April 1st. UGH. More waiting.
But, if anyone else has any insight…please share!!!
If we receive an accomplishment after being admitted, should we email our admissions officer? Would the extra accomplishment (especially if it is prestigious) potentially increase our financial aid offer?
Do you think an email asking to update my application (even though I’ve already been accepted through EA) with my new honors would annoy my admissions officer? Basically: would it hurt me or would it at the very least not change my current standing?
Same here, my D is admitted with EA. I emailed the AO with an update that most applicants do not have, wishing for the full-tuition scholarship, but she did not become a finalist.
One more question (sorry for asking so many)! I was thinking perhaps I should just email and ask if I can add an update to my application and then go from there? I know it’s kind of a long shot but I’m really hoping they would give me a little bit more so I could attend their school.
Our family has a very simple idea. We will only
(1) pay up-to around EFC, and
(2) choose the highest ranked college among admitted schools who meet criteria (1).
What is her top school choice regardless of finances? My son got merit from Tulane but zero FA. We will have 2 kids in private universities but I suppose that didn’t matter to Tulane. My son is also waiting for 3 other schools but Tulane is and always has been his #1
She likes Boston/NYC the most. The disadvantage of applying for so many colleges is hard to really make one as #1 choice and show passion to the school.
She really wants to go north so in south area, beside Tulane and LSU, she only applied for SMU in TX.
If money is not an issue, she will go to the highest rank among these she gets admissions. Tulane will be only in the consideration if our out-of-pocket is about EFC.
@karlovsky - that makes very little sense. Unless your EFC (based on FAFSA and CSS Profile) was $65k+, or it was filled out wrong, they should be giving you something (albeit small) to account for the 2nd kid in college. My son’s need-based went up by ~50% to account for his sister, who will be an incoming freshman (likely at Tulane). Have you confirmed with OFA that they’ve redone your EFC for having 2 kids in school? They can/should tell you exactly how that works. I would appeal / get on that pronto
At Tulane, I know that I’ve already established proxy to my son’s academic and financial information (that was our agreement). If he’s 18, they may ask for waiver or permission at outset, but they know parents are the ones footing most of these bills and are happy to talk.
Before calling, refer back to the student aid report (SAR) that you got once FAFSA was submitted. It should have your EFC stated explicitly on there. In addition, confirm that once it was filled out that you answered section about other dependents/kids in college. For each one, there is a formula that reduces EFC by X%, so you really shouldn’t be getting $0 in need-based aid unless you’re rolling in it and pulling our chain (lol). I’m not saying you’ve won the lottery either, but it helps
