I would send one now, and consider sending another one later in the process (maybe after the GC sends first semester grades, confirming their receipt and re-expressing interest).
Also, if there are any virtual sessions of interest your S hasn’t done, do those…see calendar here, for example, in Dec there is a holidays in New Orleans session, as well as a student panel session. I’m sure there will be additional sessions scheduled in Jan/Feb so your S can stay engaged.
