Tulane or Fordham?

I've pretty much narrowed my choices to these two schools, been accepted to both. Looking to go into journalism- hopefully as an international correspondent. I'm expecting the same financial aid from both schools with my total cost per year to be about 30-35K. From Northern NJ. What are the strengths and weaknesses of both schools programs? Im completely torn... thanks in advance for any help.

Great question! Congrats to you on both acceptances. Tulane is in New Orleans and that speaks for itself. Fabulous school in a wonderful, and vibrant city with huge history. (Loyola New Orleans across the street has fabulous faculty btw.)

Not going to knock it on any level. Those who go there LOVE IT. I applaud them.

Fordham is Jesuit and a real rising star…

it really comes down to your personal interests and objectives and long term goals. I support those who want to go away to college and leave home. I support being proactive and in the community, and both schools do that.

Flip the coin. Visit both and make your choice. I am a Fordham fanatic, but I get your dilemma.

Good luck.

Did the NPCs tell you that? I don’t think either school meets need.

^^^ meeting need, mom, is a gross misnomer. Most schools who “meet need” do it with loans, not grants. Kids are tricked into thinking that…its not true. If it were up to me, I would legislate against that label and force “truth in lending.” Meeting need should be strictly construed as scholarship and/or grant money. NOT LOANS.

Congratulations, you have two great choices. My S is at Fordham and loves it. And he has friends at Tulane who are equally happy. Think about if you would prefer to stay close to home and have NYC nearby or to go New Orleans? Do you want a Jesuit school or a somewhat larger non-denominational college. Neither answer is right or wrong. If possible try to go to accepted students day at the two schools.

You may also want to try to get hold of the two college’s newspapers (many schools have their papers online) and even contact an editor to see what opportunities you will have to write for the school paper and for papers outside the college. My S has a friend at Fordham who has written AP articles while he was a student. Good luck.

^This x 1000
even schools are saying the opposite

id go tulane but thats just me.

I would just point out that internships are easier to come by in NYC. Yes, there are other colleges in NYC, but there are geometrically more jobs.

^ Tulane has a pretty strong internship program…
